OK, technically this works fine.
You unpack all the bits, plug the receiver into the mains and into the PC. It uses twin PS/2 or single USB. Now put the batteries in, normal alkaline into keyboard, special rechargeable pack into mouse. Ours arrived charged but you may need to plop the mouse into the charger/receiver.
And it just works.
I find it a tad small for my mitts and I can't rake the angle up enough but all the buttons work. Not that you will see a small light on the receiver [F] that is not used on this keyboard or at least not that I can see and you can't turn it off. The num-lock/caps-lock lights are also on the receiver.
One task you do need to do is enable the encryption between the keyboard and the receiver. This is detailed in the drivers but is a manual process. This will stop snooping on your keypresses as they fly through the air.

insert home delete end page up page down - all correct
there are two things i look for in a keyboard.
(1) its not got "microsoft" written on it
(2) its got the ins/del/home/end/pageup-down keys in the right order and placement.
(3) it doesn't cost the earth
(4) it can stand up to a bit of punishment.
I'm just allergic to microsoft hardware,sorry.
Logitech has changed the layout of the ins/dell/etc keys for most of their range and I've been used to the 2-rows-of-3 arrangment for the past 20 years of typing on computers, so they aren't going to make me change now :) This keyboard has the keys in The Right Place.
It isn't splattered with a million useless buttons that you program once and never use.
It feels good to type on, not up to an early 90's IBM keyboard, but not much is :)
I have a habit of keyboard bashing when angry. So I have a drawer full of mostly-broken keyboards at work. Luckily no one has noticed yet. So the price of this is just about right - I'd have loved to have been able to buy the keyboard on its own but hey - the mouse ain't that bad.
The mouse is.. well its a wireless mouse, so its heavy and rather large. I must admit I'm not sure i'm going to get used to the rechargable batteries. Normally changing batteries is simple and works. I hate the idea of the batteries running out and having to plug another mouse in whilst this one recharges. Not happened yet, but its bound to happen one day - then i'll scream. And probably hit the keyboard. And probably break it. Oh well. That's what Amazon next-day delivery is for :}
