Very tacky but it's solidly enough built and works adequately - and that makes it good value for money

With my son's PC we selected an 'upgrade' to the Logitech 1500 Laser wireless keyboard and mouse and are very happy with it. However on just buying my one only this more basic Logitech 660 keyboard was offered (it's pretty identical to the '650' one pictured on Amazon). However I was very disappointed with this 660 keyboard & 650 mouse. It has everything you need - an optical wheel mouse and a few special keys for play, speaker volume and three for email, home page and calculator. Both are controlled via Logitech's SetPoint software drivers [works with XP & Vista] - although there's no programmable options for the keyboard and no on-screen display or LEDs for things like Caps Lock on. Plus the mouse is just a bit dull to look at - all black and no shiny steel as in the 1500 one. The keys on the keyboard are just too short in travel and it makes my old £30 wired Cherry keyboard seem fantastic in comparison (as indeed it is). Hitting the keys hard actually jars the fingers a little. The mouse is not shaped in any direction (which may be better for left handers) and it has no classy sculptured lines. In fact the mouse is a bit large, with a 'vibrating' third button wheel, and I do get tingling in my hand using it, which I don't get on my other computers corded MS Intellimice - although to be fair I mostly use this mouse after a long day mousing it at work (and my Intellimice cost twice the price of this combo). However, if you think this mouse is decent you obviously don't get out much. That said mouse precision is as good as most and adaquate for shooter games, although the mouse's expensive twin AA alkaline batteries only last a month - wheras in my new wireless Logitech MX-620 mouse they last a full year. The keyboard also doesn't raise up enough at the rear either.

But it's all solid and well built enough and it's not a disaster - it's just the 1500 laser system was simply rather better all round. So it's not that bad, but I'd spend more to get a better Logitech mouse/keyboard system next time. The 660/650 needs 2 AAA and 2 AA [mouse] batteries & mine were kindly supplied by Logitech. The basic setup instructions are good and the transmitter/receiver bit is on a long wired lead so it doesn't all just hang out of a USB port. I have recently upgraded the mouse to a wireless Logitech 620 MX, that cost £30 and nicks another PC USB port, but I did keep the keyboard as I love being able to lift it off the desk in a manner impossible with a USB wired version. However use the keyboard a lot and you soon start thinking perhaps upgrading this as well might not be a bad idea (and then I'd pass this complete 660/650 combo to the laptop). In fact I have just bought a wired Logitech wired Media 600 keyboard to replace this wireless one, but to be honest the keys on this more expensive model aren't any better than the ones bundled in here, it's also a bit flimsy, and the rear legs are still far too short (although you do get LEDs, on-screen displays, better styling and a great rotary volume control for the extra money). But anyway, even with the old 650 mouse, this wireless set is usable enough for light office work, plus its extremely cheap at under £20, and so good value - but I would, and eventually did, pay a lot more for significantly better logitech keyboard & mice further up their quality tree.

Excellent value for money

Very sturdy pieces of kit, nice weight to the mouse, niether keyboard nor mouse feel cheap and both work perfectly with very wide reception angles. I would'nt use this for a gaming PC, but for a home theatre PC its perfect.
Excellent value for money.

pretty much faultless

pretty much a faultless and functional, no-frills item which works perfectly well and faster than expected delivery. Who could ask for anything more?

Nice & basic.

Let me explain. I seem to be somewhat of an anomoly among computer users. I hate keyboards & mice with lots of extra function keys! I never use them!
This one only has 4. The 3 main ones are tiny & thankfully not in my way. My e-mail client, browser & calculator are all available on my quicklaunch toolbar, so there's really no effective time & effort saved by having these. As for the extra functions available via the FN key.... if I ever press that key, it will be by accident & I'll no doubt find out what it does then.

I'm slightly concerned about another reviewer's report on the speed of battery usage in the mouse. I use a Logitech DiNovo cordless desktop for Notebooks on my other computer & the batteries last a lot longer than a month, so I don't see why this one should be that different.

Installation was a matter of seconds, which is great. The mouse feels good & the keyboard works better than the last one I had, so no complaints there.

If I have one criticism, it's that I had no option other than to buy a midnight black keyboard (again!) This means I can't read the keys in low light (I'm a two-fingered typist, so I can't do it without looking). I would really love to go back to the days of light grey, or cream keyboards, with readable characters in black!

Outstanding Value for Money

This really is a very good deal. It's fairly robust, it's functional, it connects and installs without any hassle whatsoever. Tremendous value
