I bought this printer after trying to buy a new cartridge for my exisiting photosmart printer and finding out that it was cheaper to buy a new printer than buy 2 cartridges . . . madness . . . anyway, the setup was easy enough and smooth, no issues on a vista enabled laptop.
The manual isn't that helpful and/or easy to understand if you want to use the wifi features. If you want to use WIFI, sfter installing everything using the usb cable, you need to start the disk up again and click on the network setup (still with the cable plugged in) follow the on screen instructions, let the install find your network and complete . . . but then, which the manual doesn't say, is go into your network panel and add the printer as another device.
Other than that small problem with installing, I am very very please with the cost, quality of print and features of the printer.
Another product that is fine if you let it think the world revolves around it
This is an impressive machine at a small prices - lots of fancy functions and it copies, prints, and scans quite nicely.
It is also wi-fi and comes with an integrated bundle of software big enough to capsize a boat.
The wi-fi capabilities are very limited. After a 20 minute installation (and that was on a fairly fast machine using Vista) it basically needed me to reconfigure my wi-fi. If you do use the printer's wi-fi, the range seems fairly limited. On the other hand, when I reinstall the software to operate it via a USB cable, it only works for one occasion. Most printers you can plug in and unplug as needed (handy if you are using a laptop and the wi-fi capabilities of the printer are not excellent). Not the photosmart. The software, not just one small driver, stays resident but fails to recognise the printer when I plug it in again and demands I get the disk and reinstall from scratch.
When you do uninstall the software (around half a dozen integrated programs) it is not even a clean uninstall.
If all I wanted to do was live my life as a love story between my laptop and my printer, the photosmart has lots of nice make-up and a big wardrobe. Just don't try getting divorced.
Great!
Printer is a nice size, works perfectly well, was a breeze to setup, has a nice interface for copying without a PC & looks very nice!
Id say there were only two things ive found so far:
1. The installation takes AGES to install all the software & its not obvious if you can just install the drivers and nothing else
2. During setup, when you select that you will connect via the network, it comes up to say that it cant find your Printer, and then you have to click on NEXT before it THEN prompts you to temporarily put in the USB cable.
Was still very easy to set up wirelessly, which was a relief!
excellent printer
I brought this printer even after reading some negative reviews and I am really glad I ignored them because I found it incredibly easy to install I followed the instructions to the "T" and found it works great by the way I am 70 if I can do it anyone can
Great Wireless MFP!
I read the other reviews for this printer and wondered whether it would be easy to enable the wireless feature.... the answer is yes! Just follow the instructions carefully and it's a doddle. I have the printer in my spare room upstairs and use my laptop downstairs and the printer works superbly over that distance. It's also produces high quality prints quickly. So I give it 5 out of 5..... I can't yet comment on running costs though!
