Great TV!

(5 out of 5) by James Beggs on Mar 2, 2008 (Scotland)
Got this TV last week and put it up pretty much right away. Don't know much about the technical side of things but I did do my homework before spending this amount of cash. And it was worth it. Switching the TV on and the HD was instantly obvious. Once I had plugged in my PS3 (for blu ray only), X Box 360 (via RGB as I don't have an HDMI socket on it) and my Sky + box (SD) I was stunned at what this TV could achieve. It is brilliant. The 'out of the box settings are good' but it is well worth playing around yourself. I went to various forums and some have tosh 42Z settings threads. I found one from a guy who, like me, almost always watches in darkness, implemented them and WOW! I was well happy. Throughout my research, I had been torn between HD plasma and LCD. I am not disappointed by the LCD - if the plasma is better, so be it but I doubt it gets better than this. I have an analogue bose surround sound system which I love dearly and, though it may well be my imagination, I am sure it even sounds better via the component jacks. As I say, I have the PS3 though I wanted to go with an HD player but the war was won. However, this partnership is excellent and if you already have a PS3, this TV will bring it to life. As for gaming on the xbox 360? Call of duty 4 is nothing short of stunning. BTW, no ghosting, shadows or anything like that with fast moving movies or games.

In a nutshell, if you're looking for a good tv with lots of promise - this is the one. And keep an eye on the price if you ain't in a hurry because Toshiba have now announced the new generation ZF line appearing in March which could well mean the price of this one could drop. Enjoy!

Great Quality With Good Future-Proofing

(4 out of 5) by Ian Henshall on Dec 17, 2007 (Oxfordshire)
I bought this from Amazon a few weeks ago to replace a Philips 42" 720p LCD Screen. I view SkyHD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs through it and the difference in quality over the 720p is staggering. Like the review above the Blacks are the blackest I've seen so far on a LCD. Even normal Digi-TV viewing is alot better than I'd expected (not sure on the claim of Up-Scaling normal TV though). The Slim line speakers are fantastic and manage to get to quite a high volume before distortion kicks in.

The Gloss looks and Slim-line edges make this TV look smaller than it's 42" and the stand's swivel mount is fantastic.

The only minor negative is that the TV took ages to setup the picture to how I liked it as there's no Setup function so you have to edit everyone of the 15+ settings individually and then go back to the start to fine-tune them.

Other than that it's a great TV and I couldn't be happier with it.

Fantastic

(5 out of 5) by Mr. S. Glasson on Dec 6, 2007 (Cumbria)
I have just purchased the 37" version of this tv, but felt an urge to leave a review somewhere for this outstanding piece of kit. Have looked long ad hard for a new tv I finally took the plunge to buy the Toshiba Z series. The fact that it is 100hz means its even more future proof than simply being full HD.
The TV looks stunning in gloss black, and comes complete with a swivel stand. But non of this compares to the moment to switch it on. I have normal sky going in, and the standard picture quality is much better than most I had looked at, even the new panasonic LCD. Most impressive are the blacks, you do not get the grey haze that you find on many lcds.
Best of all is the HD performance, I have a ps3 and therefore 1080p. The images are simply stunning. All this combined with ONKYO speakers, means this peices of kit is virtually perfect, I only wish I had sky HD.

Buy this now and get a HD-EP30 to go with it! I have both and have been blown away by the quality of both! If you don't have 5.1 dolby digital surround buy an amplifier system too you won't regret it! Approx £1300 for a complete home cinema system. 42Z £949 EP30 £149 Yamaha AV61 £199. :o)
