great for the price

May 23, 2008 - By Lisa (uk)

This is my first review but i was so impressed with this that i thought i would comment to assure others the one review is not a one off.
This was bought for my son who at 9 finds it easy to use. The sound quality in my view is excellent for both ipod and radio. We havent even bothered with the buzzer. He wakes up every morning to his fully charged ipod so no recharging if you suddenly decide to go out for the day. The volume can be as quiet or as loud as you like. He has it quiet and finds it a really nice way of waking up. I have also used it in our large open plan kitchen and sound quality has been just as good. We are even thinking of buying another. Whilst i am no expert on these things i think you would be hard pressed to get anything better for the price.

I really like it. But if you want one you should know....

Oct 21, 2008 - By Mellar (United Kingdom)

I really like this product, it does everything I want from it with ease. It looks pretty good, sounds pretty good and is fairly simple to set up (instructions always pretty important). I recommend it to pretty much anyone that wants to be woken up by their own style of music rather than whatever the radio has to offer.

There are 3 things that anyone buying one of these should be aware of before they do so.
Firstly, if you cannot sleep in anything but complete darkness you won't like this product. The panel that displays the time has a backlight with 3 dimmer settings, dim, bright and brightest, but there is no OFF. This is not a problem for me, but it may be for some people.

Secondly (some people might consider this a good thing) the bass on the product is pretty beastly! I was very surprised by the quality of it... however I would say that for a product that is supposed to serve as an alarm it is TOO loud compared to the rest of the sound. The first time I was woken up by it (at 05:50) I couldn't help but think that the bass would carry through to my next door neighbours just the other side of the wall and wake them up. This can be remedied by changing the equaliser on the iPod to "reduced bass", but then it sounds wrong through earphones during the day, so must be constantly changed back and forth. Only a slight inconvenience, but in inconvenience none the less.

Finally the only thing that I really don't like about this product, the fact that (as far as I can tell) there is no way of stopping the iPod from charging when it is placed on the product, which means that every time I want to go to bed (and wake up by iPod in the morning) the iPod has to go on charge, and the constant charging damages the battery of the iPod. The only way to avoid this as far as I am aware is either to not use your iPod at all during the day, or use it so much that it's nearly out of battery and NEEDS the charge at the end of the day.

If none of those things bother you I happily recommend this product. I really like it, and to be honest even if I would have known those things before I bought it I still would have got it. Nevertheless anyone buying this product should be aware of its possible reasons to send back before they actually have to do so.

Nioe but Bright

May 23, 2008 - By Witchy (Swansea, Wales)

Description error: Amazon say 12 watts RMS per channel - user guide says 8 RMS per channel

Pros: A nice product with good quality iPod playback for this price range and doesn't have the 'tinnyness' of some similar products although your not going for a bass to shake the windows here.

I bought this product over similar ones for known iPod Touch support. I also like the large LED display.

Cons: Well, I bought this for the bedside - a mistake as while there is a dimmer switch for the led it goes from 'very bright' to 'bright' to 'not quite so bright'. If you like the bedroom to be dark then you will either need to have something to hand to put in front of the LED or place the unit elsewhere in the room and use the remote to control it.

Finally: It stills get four stars for overall quality and ease of use.

Excellent speaker output

Jun 21, 2008 - By T. MCCOMB (U.K)

After spending time researching which product to buy, I opted for this. I have to say that the output quality is great value at this price. The combination of functionality as a clear alarm clock with combined radio is not unique, but when combined with the sound quality makes much more expensive offerings seem ordinary in comparison.

So awesome :)

Jul 30, 2008 - By Ms. J. Collier (Glastonbury, UK)

I got this yesterday, and promptly put it on playing loud rock music whilst painting my room (And yes, it wipes clean easily :D) the sound quality easily surpasses any alarm I've ever had, and my PC speakers.
My usual music taste is rock/punk, but also some mellow guitar-ey stuff, and a bit of classical. The sounds for all were really high quality; and loud enough to annoy my neighbours (they knew about it beforehand, and then all came in to have a listen)
The only annoying thing I've found so far's been that the volume control on the iPod doesn't work, but that's no big deal with the stupidly tiny remote to turn it up/down. The power cable converter thing is a bit big; but it's hidden behind my bedside table and makes no noise, so it's pretty win/win. Also, the cables are nice and long, so it stretches to my bed :)
All in all, to wake up to awesome music, and a fully charged iPod for such a bargain price is...Priceless.
For my room, it's awesome; and I'd even say it'd fill up my lounge nicely too... But hey, it's a small house.
Yes, fingerprints are visible on it, but if you only press buttons, not smear your hands along the top, they're barely visible.
