Seems like a bargain so far...

(5 out of 5) by AmazonUser on Feb 1, 2008 (UK)
I bought this recently for use at university, so far it seems to be fine, the screen is large and clear and the webcam works suprisingly well. The performance is not quite as stella as the spec would suggest, as far as basic tasks goes my desktop at home (which runs xp)is faster and has only half the ram and a single core processor. Basically though that's down to vista, microsoft seem to think that exchanging 500mb of ram for the capacity to stick a large novelty clock on your background is a good trade. They've also arbitrarily changed the way the basic menu systems work which will doubtless provide me with hours of fun relearning something I've happily done the same way on their past 12 years of operating systems. None the less I can't really blame that on the laptop and it's basically impossible to find a cheap laptop now without vista.

Actual gripes (as opposed to digressive rants about microsoft), well the inbuilt speakers are a bit tinny but I couldn't bring myself to knock a star off because after all who buys laptops for the inbuilt speakers. And Acer would have done their users a favour by preloading less crud. All in all minor quibbles considering that this is the best value for money laptop I could find on the market.

Brilliant.

(5 out of 5) by Alastair M. Graham on Jan 30, 2008 (United Kingdom)
I got this in nifty time from amazon.

When i got it out of the packaging i was amazed at the size of it, it's pretty big. The screen is a work of art. The whole laptop is. The webcam is actually really good quality compared to some you can buy in the shops. I got everything working and had set up norton 3 month trial within half an hour or so, and was easily connected to the internet. This machine is very fast, and pretty easy to use. It's at a bargain price at the moment aswell. The 160 gb hard drive is awesome. vista and other prebuilt stuff takes up about 20gb but that still leaves you with 140gb to use!

The 4 usb ports are handy and the keyboard is pretty strong. There are very good tools like acer arcade and things, to help you along with media. (it does have windows media centre which is way better though)

I'm typing up this review on the laptop at the moment! I dont know why people are complaining about the sound, it's fine compared to other laptops i've used. If anyone was interested in this product i'd tell them to buy it as soon as they can because at £450 for a laptop with such high spec this is a complete bargain.

I hope this review helped.

Very happy

(4 out of 5) by P. M. Gaffney on Feb 24, 2008 (Hertfordshire, UK)
I bought this laptop through Amazon, it arrived only yesterday 23rd Feb 08, so I am only reporting on initial impressions. I found it very easy to set up, especially connecting to my wireless network which it connected too without any input from me. The screen is amazing and it is also quite light for such a big Laptop. My last laptop was a 15" Dell which I bought in 2001 and that was much heavier. I've had a play with the loaded software and various features and it all seems very impressive. I had spent some time deliberating over buying this model and am now very pleased that I did. The only reason I havent given it a 5 star rating is because I've had it for such a short time and can't access durability etc. There is minimal manual support, everything as seems to be the norm now is pre-loaded and accessed either on the computer or online.

Great Laptop for the price

(5 out of 5) by Mr. R. Parrott on Mar 6, 2008 (Lancashire)
After agonising over which Laptop to buy, after the demise of my PC, I chose the ACER 7720Z on price and spec. I preferred Amazon to Acer Direct based on my past experience of Amazon and I wasn't dissapointed.I paid for next day delivery to my place of work and sure enough it arrived before 10:00 am the next day. Also purchased a Belkin router which arrived as promised also.Although new to Vista and wireless - set-up was easy and sorted first time.I'm delighted with the service from Amazon and the product is great. Multi-tasking is a breeze and I can now listen to music, dart around Google Earth and have other applications open all at the same time - not unique but a quantum leap for me.Look and feel of the laptop is robust (should be at 3.4kg), a great screen and reasonable sound. The unique ACER features are good with quick views of performance status, power supply status etc. All in all a good product and compares well with similar units at £500.

Pretty good

(4 out of 5) by Lloydy on Jan 8, 2008 (Wales, UK)
Overall pretty good bit of kit with everything on it. Set up is pretty easy as everything is pre-loaded but, unfortunately, you have to make your own rescue disc as none are provided due to the pre-loading. Nice clear screen but recessed keys on the keyboard will take some getting used to. Sound quality is not great even with all the Dolby stuff and the "ACER sub-woofer" etc. Max. volume is low and it's difficult to use with the in-built mic if talking to someone else - you just cannot hear them. Probably worth 4.5 stars if the sound system/volume was better, in which case just about a 4.
