Beware Belkin

Belkin are known to have been paying for reviews on Amazon, amongst others.
Generally, their stuff is very poor (look at other reviews of Belkin stuff).

Caveat emptor!

Belkin Flip DVI KVM Switch

(4 out of 5) by Babsso on Nov 1, 2009 (Fareham, Uk)
I have used the Belkin VGA KVM before which literally just worked after I plugged everything in. Amazing for one of these items. I therefore expected the same this time round but was not so lucky. Whether it is the monitor (HPw2448hc)or the fact one machine is vista and the other xp I dont know but either way it took me a week of trying everything I could before I got it to work. I found the switch would not switch over from the xp machine to the vista machine. The switch has a long lead and short lead for connecting to pc. The short lead seems to be the default when you turn it on so I connected this to the Vista machine which is the first machine I turn on in the morning. I found it is vital you install the software on each machine to start with without the KVM switch plugged in. Then if you are using two machines with different operating systems its important to turn off the xp machine last because it does not seem to let go of the switch. If for any reason it wont switch over then turn off monitor then unplug the power lead to the switch and turn it on again. Turn on monitor and it should work. Like I say it could be the monitor but when I asked HP and Belkin there were no known issues. Its still a great product as these switches can be hell to get working and I just think my system is overly complicated with the two operating systems.

Good, but can upset some monitors with refresh rates.

I bought this a month ago, to switch my Samsung 2433 24in DVI between my mac mini, and a PC, and have been battling with it since.

It looks like the switcher doesnt pass all the plug-and-play info to the PC when the monitor is connected via the switcher, so it cant get the monitor timing correct in some cases.

The Mac display at 1920x1200 is rock solid, the monitor reports this at 73.8khz, 60HZ refresh, if your PC at 1920x1200 is causing interference at the top of the display, or flickering to black screen etc, try tweaking your graphics card refresh rate and timing figure - As I got closer to 73.8 (I'm using 72.7khz) the display magically becomes totally stable - the default for my PC was slightly lower, and appeared to upset the monitor.

Bottom line - Does what it says on the tin, but some monitors are very sensitive to the timing difference this device can cause.

Some lag on the PC when switching to the display before the keyboard starts to work, but you can live with this, as it's probably the best value for money DVI switcher on Amazon.

The Dogs

I had a cheaper version of this that I got from elsewhere (Not DVI) & I suffered from horrible mouse lag especially when playing games & the sofware switching system was complicated. So I bit the bullet & bought this & after a few installation hiccups it works fine & no mouse lag & is easy to switch.
A bit of advice though if you are having problems with it check all your plugs are inserted correctly, on one of my computers I had video but no keyboard or mouse, I checked the USB connection all ok unplugged them & plugged them back still nothing? I then realized the Video output was loose pushed it in & bingo everthing was fine.
