Great Camera!

(5 out of 5) by R. Emmines on Jul 17, 2009 (UK)
what a superb camera, does RAW, Wide, Video... ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture are adjustable. all the tweakability of an SLR in a compact form factor, i recommend this to anyone, beginner or pro!

i love it!

Just a great camera

I bought this camera over a year ago after doing intensive research into compact cameras. This little beauty was at the top of all the reviews I read and the ONLY downside was the price. My only comment on this is you get what you pay for. You can't buy a Vantage for the price of Ka.
I recently returned from a long trip to the states and not wanting to take my EOS 40D for obvious reasons of weight and the risk of theft, I used my Canon G9. The results of the hundreds of spectacular views I took are nothing short of stunning, and I am so pleased with them.
My only thoughts now are, why is this camera MORE expensive on Amazon than the newer Canon G10?

Canon PowerShot G9 Digital Camera - Black (12.1MP, 6x Optical Zoom) 3.0" LCD

Canon PowerShot G9 Digital Camera - Black (12.1MP, 6x Optical Zoom) 3.0" LCD

This camera is a 12.1 Mega Pixel camera, which for me sits in the pro-sumer bracket. It's black in colour with a 3.0' LCD display. I have taken this machine to India with excellent results during sunset and sunrises, traffic shots and large crowd shots. It's battery life is long (I have never timed how many hours) and the slot for the card is standard. You can switch between a fully automatic to manual shots, changing Aperture or Shutter Speeds independently. Quality of shots is great. At night time faces don't bleach and it takes great shots across all lights sources and scenes. I would recommend this as an excellent buy. It's been superceded by the G10 which has more manual options and a rather peculiar setting for the buttons. The G9 has RAW and GIF image support and normal USB connectivity. Buttons are solidly built.

great camera

The camera is great. I knew it would be as it replaces the same model which I had stolen, whilst on holiday. My only gripe is that it came in a tatty box which had been opened and so the seal was broken. I don't know whether this camera had been returned by a previous purchaser, but it is in working order, so I kept it.

Canon Powersot G9

I can't fault this product; it's my 6th digital camera and I've got it right at last. It's extremely user friendly and has two custom settings where you can save every setting anmd it'll be there when you go there next time even after turning the camera off which is somethink Kodak could never get their heads round!

Two moans - the manual (250 pages) is on CD Rom - tight wads at Canon.

The software for downloading appears to have no option for changing the destination of the photos forcing you to save all in My Pictures so you will fill your C drive, it won't let you put them on an external drive.
Criminally bad software design in my opinion. So I abandoned their software and just use windows.

However, all is forgiven as the camera is flawless. The battery life is extremely good.
