Very nice piece of kit

(5 out of 5) by J. Caldwell on Feb 2, 2008 (Northern Ireland)
First review on amazon but thought I should add a review for this product.. Got this little beauty for my dad at Christmas and it really is a great job. I wanted something that was easy to use and very intuitive. The gps works very well and recalculates routes very quickly should you not follow the recommended route. The added extras like speed camera database, Places of Interest, Nearest Fuel and Parking options make this a really nice product. Another important feature is the window mounting - this is so solid and strong. I had originally looked at the tom toms but so many people recommended the navman. I think the previous reviewer was a bit harsh so I would really recommend buying this product.

navman s50

(5 out of 5) by Mr. Gavin J. Mander on Aug 12, 2008 (uk)
i've recently bought a navman s50. i've found it to be reliable and very simple to use. i've not yet read the instruction manual and in all honesty there isn't much need for one. the sat nav itself calculated routes quickly and if you manage to take the wrong turn it redirects you with ease. the built in bluetooth handsfree set is great, no need to clutter your car with electronics. all in all a quality piece of kit for the price.

I'm Sold!

Navman S50 Satellite Navigation Unit With UK & Ireland Mapping
I bought this item back in April but really haven't had a chance to test it properly until last week when we went on holiday to Alnwick (from Aberdeen). Guided us perfectly there and back and also on trips to Holy Island, Bamburgh, Rothbury, The Metro Centre in Newcastle and to Durham with only one slight detour.
Recalculation of route is very fast and it has lots of nice features. Very pleased!

An excellent budget sat nav

(5 out of 5) by N. Robson on Dec 30, 2008
After having played around with friends garmin and dads Tomtom, I have wanted a sat nav of my own. The last couple of months I have been doing a lot of research about the different types and what features I'd need / like. In the end I was looking at the Navigon 2110 max and this one. In the end I opted for this unit as it was much cheaper and I couldn't be happier.

For £100 you get an excellent sat nav with bluetooth and if you buy and register before February you get the next 2009 map update free when it comes out. I would also like to mention that the pictures make this device (not the maps) look horrible, the silver sides to put me off though its rather eye catching when you see it in person.

First I'll start with the niggles

1.) UI is easy to use though not as good as garmin
2.) Default points of interests are a bit lacking.
3.) Some False positives on the pre-installed speed camera database.
4.) Default map like all sat navs have some accuracy issues.
5.) No QWERTY for post code input, only address.

The positives

1.) The Price.
2.) Brilliant Display, a quick glance tells you all you need.
3.) Voice loud and clear that can be heard over car stereo.
4.) Bluetooth works great and clear at low speeds.
5.) Multi journey
6.) Very quick to get a signal and calculate route.
7.) reroute takes about 1-2 seconds, and not just to say take a u turn
8.) Mount is much stronger then tomtom

Like all sat navs, this one isn't perfect but considering the price its not far off.

Fab directions!

(4 out of 5) by K S on Jan 29, 2009 (UK)
Clear and easy, usually finds me straight away and gets going immediately.

Once or twice I've had to turn it on and off and reset it a few times, taking about 10 minutes to start locating satelite - not great in a busy place. Don't know if this is the unit or the satelite's fault, though.

Directions are really good, idiot proof instructions and several ways of seeing them such as map and list, which you can easily move between.

Voice is clear, you don't seem to be able to change it, but it's just a little quiet at times. You can alter the volume but I've never had it below top volume, and I wouldn't really be able to have the cd player on.

The bluetooth is really great - you can use it as a handsfree phone. Fab feature.

All in all I'm delighted with it - my husband who has had loads of sat navs says it's the clearest he's used, and we both like the speed trap alerts and warnings about your own speed.
