Best digital camera to date!

(5 out of 5) by C. Ide on Dec 28, 2007 (London)
I bought this camera after having owned two previous Fuji FinePix earlier models. I had always been very pleased with Fuji cameras, particularly their outstanding ability to take good pictures in low lighting conditions. I often take shots at fairly dark music venues, and have always got good results. I only upgraded as I sadly dropped and broke my last camera. But, I am now very pleased that I did. The F50fd is a big improvement on previous models that I have used. Light, stylish almost too small for all its features! Same great performance in low light conditions, but with even clearer and more detailed pictures due to the high pixel count.
For landscape, portrait and macro shots, I cannot fault it either. It has many extra features and manual settings, but I tend to use the automatic presets-yes, I point and click.
It is the best digital camera I have owned, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

takes a pretty picture

(5 out of 5) by L. Woolmore on Jan 22, 2008 (london)
I got this camera as a Christmas present. For the price it is a brilliantly high spec camera. I opted for this as I own a Fuji Finepix F10 and have always been happy with it up till last year when I got back from Egypt and realised my pictures were lacking a bit of the clarity and colour.
This camera is obviously a huge improvement. It is well built and the screen on the back is more than adequate. The controls are easy to master. I took it away this weekend on a visit to Snowdonia. The battery life was good and lasted 300 or so pictures half with the flash on. The pictures I got back seem almost professional quality.
I started on fully automatic mode and moved on to specific automatic settings such as scenic view and portrait. After a little fiddling with the settings I found the automatic with some manual overrides mode worked best for me. The weather was quite wet and dark the whole weekend, and yet the camera seems to have captured the colours vividly.
I have uploaded five pictures in to the customer photos section above. I would recommend this camera to anyone for the price. I just don't think you could fail to be impressed.

Simply stunning pocket camera

(5 out of 5) by D. Jones on May 21, 2008 (Surrey)
I am a professional photographer and shoot all day with a Canon 1D, 5D and 40D. I purchased this for my wife as a 'take anywhere' camera and have to say that it is absolutely brilliant. Focusing is fast and accurate (even in low light), the large screen is nice and bright, and face detection is superb. The only downside is the interface which is a bit clunky and dated but you get used to it.
But at the end of the day the ONLY thing that matters with any camera is picture quality and for this the little fujifilm is top of its class. Even better than the Canon IXUS range?? Oh yes, you won't be dissapointed.

fuji finepix f50fd

excellent camera.i got mine a few weeks ago off qvc for £250 when it was the TSV (but i did get an sd card, spare battery and fuji leather case thrown in with it too).however with amazon's price tag of £167.25,you will be able to buy those accesories and it'll still come out well under qvc's price which has now gone up to £302.50+£5.45p&p (what a rip off!).
pictures are fantastic and look great when printed out too.loads of detail from the 12MP sensor.small, lightweight and compact.all metal body gives a quality feel to it.large bright lcd screen that can be seen when outdoors.
battery life is excellent too.
if you're looking for a small, compact digital camera with all the latest technology built in - go for this one,you wont be disappointed.i certainly am not.

Excellent but with one niggle

(4 out of 5) by M. Newman on Aug 26, 2008 (Essex UK)
I purchased this camera for the extra manual features it boasts as I like to be a little creative on occasion with my photography.

I've only owned the Fuji f50 for a short time and many respects I'm very impressed with it.

It does however appear to have one frustrating flaw in my opinion. This is with scenic views that have a high degree of light contrast. (Ie: Lakes with a lot of cloudy sky reflection.) The pictures tend to come out really dark and I have been unable as yet to find any settings that can compensate for this effect.

I took pictures of similar scenes with both this camera and my Samsung Digimax i6 and though the focus was better with the Fuji f50 the Samsung had little problem with the light contrast.

Like another reviewer I found the colour so much better after reading the handbook and switching the colour to the 'Chrome' setting for scenic shots. The 'Standard' setting is fine for most other photography.

The focus is excellent even when at full optical zoom and is good right to the edge of the picture.

Another feature that is very good is the camera's ability to take decent clear pictures indoors without a flash, due to the range of ISO settings combined with the shake reduction feature.

Though the one Macro setting doesn't allow me to get as close to a subject as my Samsung (25mm), it still does a superb job at 70mm from the subject with crisp results.

I haven't bothered with the 12 megapixel setting as I haven't found it necassary. Six is fine.

I really like this camera but on a recent holiday to North Wales I found myself slipping my Samsung in my pocket as well to capture those high contrast lake shots.
