Superb for the environment it's designed for.
This is my first review (ever), but I was prompted to comment having read the misguided account by the previous reviewer.
In short, this radio is superb radio when used in the environment it was designed for.
Sony designate it a 'kitchen' radio, hence the clock, wipeable surface finish and equally hence, the lack of wake up alarm (I tend to sleep in other rooms of the house rather than the kitchen) and dimming facility.
With regards to sound quality, when used in kitchen type surroundings I can honestly say it blows away what is regarded as one of the best radios out there (Tivoli model Audio DAB), as this was the model I purchased first and did a direct comparison with the Sony I'd previously bought for my parents.
Granted, the Tivoli (and probably other radios) sounded far better in an environment with soft furnishings etc, but this transferred to boomy bass and muddled mid range when used in a room with predominantly hard surfaces and finishes.
To a degree, I must concur with the point made regarding the merits of having stereo speakers in such a small cabinet, as the stereo separation is insufficient to be of notice. However, I personally feel some 'enhancement' is lost when channelling stereo recordings through a mono speaker so would not mark it down as a totally pointless feature.
As far as all else is concerned it's equally flawless: knob turn controls to search for channels ( much more effective than repeatedly pressing buttons), 20 presets, equally good fm radio etc etc.
To sum up, if your buying a radio for the kitchen I'm sure this model's acoustics were purpose designed for that specific environment as it out performs others by miles.
Don't hesitate - buy it!

Rather disappointing
Good selection and capture of DAB signal. Quite easy to use.
Sound is rather woolly and "boxy", but acceptable for bedside listening. Having two stereo speakers in a box 10 inches wide seems pointless. The unit has a clock and Sleep facility, but surprisingly no Alarm function. Display is very bright in a dark room and a dim facility would be useful.

Great DAB radio - cheaper in M&S
I did a lot of searching for best price on this radio. Just before I was going to order online, I popped into a large Marks and Spencer (with the wife on a supremely dull shopping trip) and to my surprise this was on sale for £48.90. Bargain! I love Amazon, but the price was too good to miss.
I'm a bit of a Sony snob and this has not disappointed.
Superb DAB, with good clear crisp sound. Good volume too. Presets are easy to set and being a man I set the whole thing up without the instructions in 2 minutes. Could have done it in 1 minute, with the instructions, but what fun would that be. Good FM radio. Could have done with a radio alarm option, but mine went in the kitchen and it is perfect.
