Value

Excellent value. Does everything I wanted- especially love the feature of deleting a recording - regaining that disc space and leaving all other recordings intact. Brilliant!

Good value

Sony RDRGX350B DVD Recorder The outstanding feature of this recorder is the improved quality of the picture from my old Bush recorder. I played a DVD I had recently watched and the difference is clearly noticeable. And this is BEFORE I have connected the HDMI bits. I just put it in place of my old recorder and transferred the SCART etc connections to the new one. So I am pleased with just for that. It won't play CDs unfortuntaly and seems picky over my own previously recored DVDs but i have only had it an hour or so, and am sertainly hanging onto it. I am glad it does not have Freeview as the display on Sony is too small for my eyes, so I can play my Bush PVR through it and use that. I have learnt that if I record onto my PVR then I can play it back and record it onto DVD at the same time so that is OK. I wouldnt use it for timer DVD recordings though, far too complicated. the remote has a lot of stuff on it but at least it works. My dear old Bush only responded to the remote when it felt in a good mood. I recommend this item but think carefully fuirst for what purposes you want. Thanks Amazon too, it got to me before the computer knew where it was!.

Disappointed

(3 out of 5) by Mr. A. Mardell on Nov 21, 2008 (UK)
I brought this to replace a 5 year old Philips DVD Recorder. The main purpose was to backup stuff from my Sky+ box.

The Sky+ has a clever Copy facility, that with my old recorder used to signal the attached recorder to start and stop, so i could backup easily, with no more than 2 keypresses on Sky+.

After much research, it looked like the Sync Record function on this unit was exactly the same thing. Its not. This is a huge downgrade in usefulness over an early cheap 5 year old recorder. I even resorted to reading the manual, but to no avail.

Its an good recorder, but dont buy this to backup from Sky boxes, as its useless.

Difficulty in setting up with Sky HD

(3 out of 5) by Neil Sinclair on Mar 10, 2008 (Kent)
I bought this to do 1 thing, which is to empty my full Sky HD hard drive, I know it doesn't record in HD, as yet nothing commercially available will. No all I wanted to was to put the 6 recorded Rugby league games onto their own discs. I have an AV amp at the heart of my system, I have the SKY HD box and this recorder feeding into that via HDMI and an HDMI from AV Amp to the Plasma TV, working a treat. Now I wanted to connect the recorder side of things via scart, firstly no signal at all coming into the recorder, that was the SKY box output setting, sorted, then when I did eventually get a picture its about one third the size of my plasma with no sound at all. This I assumed was the very expensive RGB Scart I used which I suspect is picture only, add an audio lead I thought, the problem is there is no audio input on this Sony other than the decoder/line in scart. So I have had to buy a second fully wired scart, but still when I look at the picture through this scart it is still reduced in size to the middle of the plasma. Frustrating!! so in terms of playing DVD's it is good, trying to get recordings from the Sky HD box to it though is a different matter.
