Second only to the Sony R1

(5 out of 5) by Angel on Aug 22, 2007 (London)
This is a fantastic camera. I normally use a Sony R1 but got this recently as a second camera to carry around with me, takes great portraits, starts up quickly, small enough to fit into my pocket and produces clear, huge photos. Colour's not a vivid as the Sony and it gets very noisy when you get up to the higher ISO numbers, but overall it is easy to use, a great second camera.

Truly excellent compact camera

(5 out of 5) by Hard to Please on Dec 10, 2007 (Derbyshire, UK)
After moving up from a 3mp camera understandably I am hugely impressed with the image quality this camera delivers. The colours are vivid and the image size allows for the later correction of duff technique without too much of a compromise. The menu system takes a bit of getting used to but actually makes a lot of sense. I would agree with the other reviewer wrt the bar of soap effect. It's beautifully finished and compact but a bit slippery meaning the wrist strap is worth retaining. All in all I am extremely happy with the product and the results it produces.

DMC FX100

(5 out of 5) by Wrigley20 on Jul 11, 2007 (UK)
This camera is superb in every way. The build quality is 1st class. The pictures this beauty delivers is superb. I am able to get A2 pictures with superb clarity for such a small camera. The manual settings are good, with a choice up to ISO 1600 (lots of noise. All in all I am very very impressed with this 12MP camera. The only downside is it can sometimes behave like a bar of soap in your hand, its that compact.

Superb Camera

(5 out of 5) by S. Vora on Apr 14, 2009 (Surrey, UK)
I have this camera since it came out in 2007. The camera delivers fantastic result. On my holiday in 2007, I took two cameras Digital SLR and this camera as second camera in case. I and my companion more or less took same picture thru out our two weeks away. On our return I compared the photos. The picture taken by this camera were far superior to the expensive SLR. Its ease of use and speed of taking picture is totally amazing.

If anybody looking to buy a camera for professional results with just a click of the button, go for this one.

Diminutive snapper!

(3 out of 5) by RSM on Sep 17, 2009 (Herts, UK.)
I've had a Panasonic DMC FX100 for the best part of a year now, bought as a replacement for an old Canon Powershot 45.

The things I like best about the DMC FX100 are:-

* Petite size - smaller than a packet of cigarettes and will fit a shirt or jacket pocket easily.

* Excellent pre-programmed modes - the night scene mode is one of the best I've encountered on a digital compact - and see also attached pictures using 'snowy mode' which are quite impressive.

* Good build quality (small but weighty).

* Fairly extensive software package (Arcsoft), and really easy installation with no download problems, even on my ancient Windows ME operating system!

The things I'm not so keen on are:-

* Lack of any real manual control (unlike the Powershots in the same price bracket).

* Poor light metering indoors during the daytime, leading to some darker than average pictures. (OK in a dark room or at night-time when flash operates)

Overall, though I'm reasonably happy with the Panasonic, I would probably return to Canon, as I feel the image quality was superior (even with Panasonic's lens borrowed from Leica, and the extra 6MP). Close, but no cigar.
