Amazing camera - buy one now

(5 out of 5) by M. B. Anwar on Jun 1, 2008 (UK)
I have one of these beauties with a 8mb sdhc card which lets me store over 3000 photos at full resolution, along with high quality video. I have taken some pictures which make me look like a professional photographer. Believe me, my skills are less than average!

I bought this as a replacement for a good 5 megapixel camera and this blows it away. The zoom function is excellent and the quality of pictures has to be seen to be believed. Additionally, there are numerous functions and a fantastic 2.5 inch high-res flip-out screen is included.

If you have any hesitation about which camera to buy, then just buy this one, honestly its a no-brainer!

Not the best..

Dont expect great images from this camera. It is only equal in results to my Lumix point and squirt 7 meg.Zoom is good but iso performance is poor.Heavy graining at 800. Battery life is very poor. Spend the extra cash on a nikon d40.

good camera but died

(2 out of 5) by michael on Oct 24, 2007 (galloway)
I bought a S2 IS 18 months ago
I agree with the favourable comments on the camera's performance and was very pleased with it until it died a month ago, 5 months out of warranty, needing a new lens. Despite being well cared for the option is a £170+ repair bill or replacement. I had a similar experience with an Ixus aps a few years ago. Needless to say I wont be buying another Canon and will replace my ageing Panasonic Lumix with a newer model.

Jolly good!

I'm not a camera buff and cant tell you about its F stops and stuff like that but I can tell you what its like to use as a relatively simple camera. I've got a small compact camera but wanted something that just took better pictures - sharper, better zoom, all that kind of stuff, but didnt want a 3Kg lump needing a rucksack to cart around. This just does it all - great, really great pictures, sharp, lovely colour, just brilliant. Really simple to use, plenty of stuff you can do to use it maually or just point and squirt - either way, it works a treat every time.

Theres three drawbacks in my opinion. First the flash doesnt pop up automatically - you have to flip it up when the flash symbol appears in the viewfinder. Second, the lcd screen has to be opened up - its not like a compact camera LCD screen. Third - it really needs a dedicated battery pack, but other reviewers have suggested that decent NiMh batts are fine - I find disposable ones dont last that long.

Great Camara

I have never bothered to write a review before but had to in this case. This is the best value of any product i have had. It has just been used for a month on my trip to India and never missed a beat even after being dropped twice on to rocks from 10 feet (don't ask)

Just fininshed down loading the pictures and videos and am blown away with the quality, i may by another as a back up.

Simple to use, tough and produces great pictures with no fuss, nuff said
