Excellent for what my family use it for.

Christmas present for the family and very happy with it too. Screen is excellent for DVDs, web-browsing and the internet. I personally like the looks and keyboard though it is not for everyone. The one thing to be wary of is the touchpad activating when you are touch typing which makes it misbehave and is annoying. Powers up all my programmes and peforms them really well. The sound quality is excellent with a set of headphones plugged in but really did expect more of the Dolby Digital set up. My twelve year old says it is very easy to use, my partner and I need a little help getting used to Vista. All in all, a good all rounder offering very good value for money.

At the time of purchase, a great buy. There will always be offers making the choice of what to buy different whenever you look. If you can pick this spec of laptop up for £400 then it's well worth the investment.
Don't be fooled by some cheap offers. Make sure the laptop has a dual core processor. For the difference in price it's worth having a dual core processor (the processor effects the speed at which instructions/commands are carried out). Apart from that, don't get too hung up on numbers. 2gb/3gb/4gb ram etc, it doesn't really matter, you won't exceed any of these amounts for personal use. 15.4 screens are the pricey end of the laptop market. Personally, I don't like using a screen smaller than 15'.
As for DVD/CD/Blu Ray drives. 16x/ 32x? Unless you are running a dodgey copy empire, it shouldn't matter. Obviously it affects the speed at which information is read or written. For the amount of time you will want to do this, does it matter? I suspect not.

Great screen terrible trackpad

(3 out of 5) by Richard P on Feb 26, 2008 (Aberdeen, Scotland)
Bought this for my wife's Xmas so had it 2+ months so far. CrystalBrite screen is *fantastic* for running movies & web browsing; processor speed is fine for our web browsing & MS Office use, Vista taking some getting used to some good, some bad points. Keyboard needs a firm tap to display the character every time: my wife's touch typing suffers, though my heavy handed typing doesn't. The trackpad in front of the keyboard is frankly awful, no matter how much we adjust in Control Panel - the cursor will intermittently freeze on screen, won't move the direction we want - so we've added a mouse which means it isn't quite as vesatile on the move as we'd planned.

I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND A ACER LAPTOP, WE HAVE NOW PURCHASED A LOWER SPEC LAPTOP ACER AGAIN FOR OUR SON, AND WE ARE VERY PLEASED WITH HIS ALSO.
