Wonderful laptop but the keyboard...

(3 out of 5) by Andrea Bertocco on Sep 28, 2007 (London, UK)
The laptop comes with a wonderful screen, robust frame, 2 GB of memory and a powerful cpu. For 500 quid (now even less) you couldn't ask for more, but...!

The keyboard is the main disappointment; Acer should really think of making better ones!
I had this model for only 6 days (then returned) and I felt that all the buttons were about to pop out...don't they know that changing a keyboard on a laptop is not that easy and it doesn't take a simple trip to your local computer store to get a new one?
I wonder if they are implementing new keyboards in their new "Stylis Gemstone Design" laptops.

Disappoint-(Andrea)-ed

Pretty good for the price

(4 out of 5) by Simon on Oct 19, 2007 (UK)
Got this direct from Amazon for £450 last week - price seems to be all over the place ! Went down another £10 immediately after I bought it, but now up to £500 ?!

Brilliant value for money at what I paid. Not much that I'd grumble about that isn't related to Vista O/S rather than the hardware, but even Vista isn't quite as bad as I imagined, coming from XP. Screen is pretty damn good, keyboard is fine for a non touch-typer like me.

Only thing I'm not happy with is the LAN port machanism - a std wired LAN connector doesn't latch in properly on mine, so the connection keeps dropping - but I'm using the wireless connctivity anyway, so I can live with that.

Careful while choosing operating system

(3 out of 5) by Mr. R. Sahani on Sep 23, 2007 (Belfast)
No compaint with Acer Laptop but dissatisfied with its pre-installed Vista Premium.

I bought new acer laptop core 2 duo, 2 GB RAM with Pre installed Vista Home Premium to replace my old laptop. But this turned to a nightmare activity for restoring my DSL (speedtouch 330 modem) on new laptop.

After installing the drivers (given my ISP)it started working fine, but my joy didn't last longer. Suddenly it stopped and never able to reconnect. My modem never stabled at green light.

I downloaded the latest driver officially released from thomson.net site for speedtouch 330 for Vista. Installed the drivers but stuck while it prompted to plug-in the modem to USB port of computer.
When I plug-in, VISTA thrown error as "Hardware id Missing". So never got any luck after several try, restarted and followed exact steps given by thomson site.

Meantime , it uncovered some other problem of this OS,
1)When I uninstall some program, it does not remove the shortcut of uninstalled program from desktop. I tried to delete manualy but got error "program not found".
2) Some time task manager simply does not appear.
3) After opening multiple applications and if one application stuck and got some unresolved error by VIsta, it hangs and frustrating is task manager is not consistent in opening.
4) When everything stops, I log-off, some times even that does not work , log-off process just run for ever. I had to forcefully shutdown.

After such big problems I , restored to its factory setting and tried my luck again to with my Speedtouch 330 ADSL broadband connection. Broadaband worked for few hours and next morning same problem started. After reading serveral comments over net I found VISTA has such serval incomapartible issues and currently ADSL ISP providers also working hard and some shown helplessness on such DSL modems with VISTA.

Taken the conclusive decision "I WILL NOT BUY ANY NEW Operating System from Microsoft PRODUCT UNTILL IT SETTLED DOWN IN MARKET AND FREE FROM COMPARTIBLE ISSUE".

Looks like Microsoft has shown hurry in releasing its half boiled OS.

Now I will be back to my Windows XP. I would like my existing things working before looking for new featured.

Hope this helps.

poor screen resolution

(4 out of 5) by Haamakumba J. Chiputa on Oct 30, 2007 (Zambia)
I am only disappointed with the maximum resolution for this laptop. The maximum is 1200 x 800, where as older brands(but different) have maximum resolutions as high as 1400 x 1050. And it has a bluetooth button which doesn't work. Also not sure if the Windows Vista Upgrade Disc is what Amazon refers to as the Recovery disc. but everything else is worth the money.
