Good All Round Machine

(5 out of 5) by Techy Guy on Aug 31, 2007 (UK)
I bought this machine and I thinks it's great. I was a little apprehensive of the idea of having a 17" screen on a notebook, but it's great for watching movies and viewing spreadsheet especially because of the widescreen feature with Vista!

It's the first AMD notebook I have bought, but pleased with the relative performance for the £499 price Tag. 1gb of memory seems ample so far and the 120gb hard drive left loads of space after I loaded itunes.

The coolest features I found was;

The 5-in-1 card reader for the getting photos of my memory card.
The integrated webcam that Acer call an 'Orbicam'

I used the orbicam to have an online chat with my mum in the states. It was great.

Overall, I'd say this is a great value for money notebook with a big screen.

Buy it if you've got 500 quid! Thanks Amazon

disastrous

(1 out of 5) by pet2000 on Aug 4, 2007
This notebook looks good on paper but my first Acer 17" failed to work properly within 7 days of receiving it. The second lasted only 2 days. Major problems are electrical fault: switches itself on when closed unless you remove the battery, sudden power failure while you work (and looses all your data). I my opinion this model is completely unreliable and a waste of time. DON'T BUY!

super laptop

(5 out of 5) by Nobito on Nov 17, 2007 (Manchester UK)
First, I want to say thanks to amazon for prompt delivery. It took just 3 days to get to me on a free super delivery option.

This is my first experience with ACER and the performance of this laptop so far is amazing.

I currently own a compaq that runs on AMD 64x2 processor with XP operating system but I can say that for Vista, the speed of this ACER is wonderul.

The webcam and bluetooth and wireless connectivity is second to none.

Thanks.

Unreliable Acers

(1 out of 5) by Siane on Nov 22, 2007 (Nottingham, UK)
I have to agree with the "Disastrous" review. I have an Acer Aspire which has a similar fault - it switches itself off for no apparent reason. Upon further research on the internet it seems that this is a common problem with Acer laptops, a design fault caused by overheating and an inadequate or faulty fan. My machine has been back for repair, but they couldn't find anything wrong with it as it is an intermittent fault. Don't buy an Acer is my advice.
