I bought the Corsair Survivor because I accidentally bent my Sandisk Cruzer Micro in a bicycle pannier, and I decided that since it was the third USB stick to get destroyed this way I needed something much stronger. So this one seemed like the ideal choice!
I was delighted to find that this USB stick had an excellent level of build quality, and that feels sturdy in the hand (as you would expect with an aluminium USB stick). However, when I removed the metal casing I felt slightly let down by the fact that the end of the USB socket is not better protected. I would have expected more than just a rubber seal to protect it against the inevitable wear and tear of using it every day (and the occasional bicycle wheel).
I have found the speed of this stick to be average, in a non-scientific test I found that the Sandisk Cruzer has a faster copying speed, but lets face it, the build quality more than makes up for this slight disadvantage. One which you most likely would never notice.
Overall, I would highly recommend buying the Corsair Survivor 8GB even though it is more expensive than the competition. At the end of the day - you get what you pay for (sorry for the cliché).

Good but not that good
I have owned one of these for a year. Very strong and rugged whilst in its case (which is pretty big)but when it accidently got a gentle knock whilst plugged into the front of a PC(which with its long length is always going to happen sooner or later)it broke and now does not work at all. Actually turns out to be quite expensive, not terribly strong waste of money.
THE BEST
JUST AFTER I GOT IT I ATTACHED IT TO MY PACK WITH CLIMBING ROPE. YANKED THE BAG AND THE MEMORY STICK. YIKES! REALLY HARD PULL WOULD HAVE DESTROYED ALL OTHER MEMORY. SURVIVOR SURVIVED. NO PROBLEMS. RAIN SUN SNOW. OPENS AND CLOSES EASILY. CAN USE THE ENCLOSED CHAIN TO LOOP THE TWO PIECES OF THE DEVICE FOR SAFEKEEPING.
WICKED FAST DATA TRANSFER TOO. GREAT VALUE.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Will survive a Fallout 3 mini nuke
Tough, well built and reliable. I personally am not a fan of small plasticky USB drives which feel as though they are gonna snap after 6 months of use. This drive sits next to my car keys, coins and turmoils of being in my pocket whilst I'm running around all day in hospital. The case is now scratched and gritty but the drive itself is hanging strong. For someone like me, its impossible for me to rely on any other type of drive to survive the type of beating this drive experiences daily.
A durable USB device
The first thing that grabs you about the Corsair Survivor is it's size and weight. The device comes with a rugged metallic external housing which measures about 83mm in length, 21mm wide with a circumference of about 83mm. This is not a small and discrete device, but then again, this is the "Survivor", capable of taking a number of bumps and falls without suffering any damage so perhaps the tough and bulky exterior is to be expected. Once removed from the the casing the actual USB drive is quite long and slender and feature a blue LED to let you know when data is being transferred.
Read time seemed good, I was able to play a 1.4 gb .avi movie file from the drive via a Sony PS3 without any noticeable lag in read performance. I tested the write speed of the drive with a few different files for comparison's sake. I transferred a single 550 mb .avi file via USB2 to the Survivor in 1 min 48 seconds. I then transferred a small 10.7 mb folder containing around 25 JPEG images to the drive in 13 seconds. I then transferred a larger 115 mb folder of mp3 files to the drive in 1 minute 31 seconds.
I then decided to repeat the above write examples. The 550 mb .avi file transferred in 1 min 44 seconds. The folder of images transferred in 11 seconds. The folder of mp3s transferred in 21.8 seconds. I'm not quite sure why there was a massive difference between the transfer speed of the mp3 files the second time around but this faster speed was more consistent with subsequent everyday use.
Overall, this drives writes data quick enough for most needs and reads data perfectly well. It may be a little bulky, but the pay off is in the tough exterior casing.
