Most Helpful First | Newest FirstA Phone - Not a Toy
Over the years I have come to realise that people who buy mobile phones fall into one of two groups - those who want a communications device, and those who want a toy. In the latter case, the communications function is entirely secondary to the fact that you can take pictures, record video, listen to the radio, use the device as an MP3 player, etc., etc. After owning various mid-range phones that included some of the more modern bells and whistles, I came to the conclusion that all I really wanted was a communications device. There is no point in paying out for functions you never use. I then did my homework on the net, looked at some phones owned by colleagues and friends, and decided to go for the Nokia 1112. I have not been disappointed. WARNING: if you are one of the above-mentioned people for whom talking and texting is not enough, do NOT buy this phone. If, on the other hand, that is all you want to do, buy one as soon as you can. You can see the basic specs in the usual blurb, but I would make special mention of the monochrome dispay. There are two font sizes, but the smaller of the two is still larger than the font on any other phone I have ever had, and is particularly clear and easy to read - a big bonus if you happen to forget your glasses. The menu system couldn't be easier to follow, even if you have only limited experience of mobile phones. The keyboard is a delight to use - very responsive, and the keys are far enough apart for even quite thick fingers not to fall over each other when texting. Sound quality is good. There are plenty of ringtones for those who worry about such things, but personally I am happy with a ringtone that sounds like a phone and is loud enough. Fortunately, the device includes one. I found reviews complaining that there is room for only 200 entries in the phonebook on the phone itself, and that you can attach only one number to each name. I have struggled to fill even half of the 200 spaces available but, even if I managed to do this, there is room for another 200 entries on the SIM card. The reviews also said that battery life is excellent. I haven't had mine long enough to make a considered judgement yet, but the battery indicator still shows 'full' despite the use I have made of the phone since I got it two days ago. All in all, the phone is simple and unsophisticated, but very good at what it does. The only concession to toyland are the three games, which I would never use anyway. As long as you only want it for talking and texting, this phone is an excellent investment. I have already sent off for another one for my wife. Buy one now.
Amazing price for a phone bursting with features
For the money you pay for this phone, it represents excellent value for money, and is an ideal entry level market phone, or one you need as a spare. It is full of features which include an alarm which announces the time when it goes off, a very good loud speaker mode, and all the benefits you would come to expect from a Nokia brand.
I recently got one of these for my partner, and was so impressed I have now placed an order for one for my Mother, and as a second phone for me. Its definitely worth buying, the phone is very sleek, and fits snugly into most pockets, and is very light. It has superb standby time. The one we brought still has 2 bars left and it's been on standby for 15 days. Well worth the 18 odd pounds 5 star phone.
nokia 1112
Having tried for months to find a mobile which i could actually hear ringing in the middle of Asda on a saturday afternoon and which did'nt entail carrying a mobile charger around with me,i finally succeeded with the Nokia 1112.
It does'nt have all the bells and whistles of your samsungs and sony ericsons but if you want a phone which does what its supposed to do ie make and receive calls then go for it .you won't be disappointed. To sum up Stand by time Talk time ringer volume and mono display(which is visable at all times) are all excellent and its even got a speaking clock for goodness sake
