BRILLIANT

(5 out of 5) by Jammy dodger on Sep 9, 2007
I bought this product about a month ago and It's TINY ant extremly thin. The sound quality is great and it can store loads of songs and it is a extremly good value. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap mp3 player.

Delightful little player!

(5 out of 5) by Siani on Dec 6, 2007 (Swansea, UK)
I bought this little MP3 player, after finally having enough of lugging around a Sony CD Walkman and loads of CDs. Definitely time to join the 21st century! This player is a lovely, uncomplicated little machine. It requires no software whatsoever - Windows recognises it immediately, as a removable drive. You simply attach the USB lead and hook it up to your computer to charge it. Adding music and podcasts to it is as simple as dragging a file from your hard drive and dropping it into the Zen Stone Folder.

Operation is simple, via a central on/off button, surrounded by up/down volume buttons, and forward/back buttons. There are no complex menus to negotiate, which means that once the button positions are memorised (which takes seconds), you can operate it without even taking it out of your pocket. One thing that might take a new user off-guard, is the on/off switch. You need to depress it for a few seconds, then let go, in order to turn it on/off.

Another plus is its tiny size and weight - it's smaller and lighter than one of those tiny silicon sachets that often come packed with electrical goods. It takes up less space in your pocket or bag than a key fob, but despite its size, it produces a lovely, rich sound, best experienced by upgrading from the headphones which come with it. The headphones aren't bad, but don't do the player justice - however, at such a low price, that's understandable. I purchased a separate pair of Creative Labs EP-630/A Earphones, as they're currently on special offer.

If you're looking for a basic, easy to use, small, light, nice-looking MP3 player, with a decent sound quality, the Zen Stone is well worth considering. It might not have a screen or a huge storage capacity, but the 1 GB capacity should be ample for users who don't want to carry all their music files around with them (who does?). It's certainly a nice, economical alternative to the iPod shuffle.

Remarkable

(5 out of 5) by K. C. Simm on Oct 31, 2007 (Lancashire UK)
It is remarkable how light this piece of kit is. It is remarkable how small this piece of kit is. It is equally astonishing what a great piece of design this is.
As others have compared the Stone to I-Pod I won't bother other than to say without pre-prejudice this is simply one of the finest pieces of useful technology I have seen. It does exactly what it says it will do. No more, no less. It is very easy to use. Just sync with Windows Media player and away you go. It is very easy on the eye. Well except for the pink one, which is PINK. The sound is exceptional whatever genre you are into. The only downside is that the ear phones supplied may need upgrading but it depends what you are satisfied with.
Remember it is extremly small and light and could easily be lost. It does actually fit on a key ring which is useful. It is, overall, remarkable.

Basic but generally useful

(4 out of 5) by M. Torrance on Oct 4, 2007
I bought this to replace my 2 year old zen micro.
I wanted something light and easy to use.
For the time i use this the battery life is fine but its a pain if you forget to charge it and can't get to a computer ( i already have a charger so that's ok for me)
The fact that you can drag and drop straight from media player is a big plus for me no downloads necessary.
If you are buying this for a child and you do download the software the volume limiter with password protection is worth considering to protect their delicate ears.
The headphones that come with it are large and uncomfy i think its worth while investing in a decent pair.
the lack of screen is fine for me as it is easy to chop and change your music when you feel like.
Overall for the money i think this is great.

It Rings my Bells

(5 out of 5) by J. Chippindale on Aug 10, 2007 (England)
I have to admit that I am another reviewer who is not particularly on the ball as far as MP3 players are concerned. I purchased it because the price seemed reasonable, the appearance of the player looked up to date and it was small and unobtrusive.

The sound quality seems fine to me. It is easy to put music on to it and similarly easy to delete it when I am fed up with the songs that are on it. I know that you can pay really fancy money for all the bells and whistles on one of these things, but personally I just didn't need them. I just enjoy listening to it in bed. I suffer quite a bit from insomnia (old age, or something like that) and after getting into bed, ten minutes of Des O'Connor puts me in dreamland. Only kidding.
