Best of the Bunch!!!
I was planning to buy this at an airport as a replacement for my iPod but in view of some of the reviews on this page I decided to buy now and check that there are no problems. THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS WITH SONIC STAGE. I don't know what kind of computer people who have had trouble are using, but my Toshiba laptop with Windows XP Media Centre copes perfectly.
Moreover, I think Sonic Stage is way better than iTunes, which attacks DVD/CD units so that Windows ceases to recognize them properly, not to mention that the CD's I burnt with iTunes were sonically utter rubbish. I think Sonic Stage is also much better than Windows Media Player or Magix MP3 - much smarter, much more intuitive.
The sound of the NWA808 is also far far superior to Apple's iPod. The sound I get from the Walkman is almost the same I get from my Quads with the B&W 703's! So I have no loss from what I am used to on my HiFi system.
Video and picture quality is exceptional for such a small screen, too.
To sum up, unless you have an out of date PC or one with problems you don't know about, I would strongly recommend the Walkman. I would never say that for the Apple iPod whose slide control I found idiotic, not 'cool'. The Walkman's controls are also far far superior.

Everything I wanted
I checked out all reviews for all MP3 players in my price range and this product gets marked down for its software. I already own an older Sony MP3 player and the older version of the software was just overwritten by the new version 4.3 with no loss of data. The software is also very easy to use.
The player is of excellent quality and performs superbly on all 3 of its functions. The screen is crystal clear and the sound is superb. The menu system is the easiest to navigate I have ever used. To summarise, a quality piece of kit from Sony and if it wasn't for the software issues some people are experiencing, it would probably be considered best in class.

Superb
I have the black 8gb version of this player and I am very impressed.
Build quality is excellent - The player is light but feels very solid in your hand. The supplied headphones are very good quality with excellent sound reproduction, although I did have to change from the default equaliser settings.
The controls are very intuitive and the display is of very high quality.
The SonicStage software is required to download files to the player - It's sometimes sluggish but with a bit of perseverance it works well. Playlists are easily created and transfered.

Brilliant!!!
I have been without an mp3 player for about one month which was awful, but when I chose this mp3 player it was all worthwhile.
When I bought this my only concern was the Sonicstage software- as many people had said how bad it was including the reviewer below me, but thankfully it's great. I don't know what the problem is for other people because my computer is very slow but it coped with sonicstage. If you quickly read the manual putting CD's on the player is very easy.
As for the player itself, the design is brilliant. The player itself is small and sleek but the screen is a good size. I haven't put any videos on yet but I watched the spiderman 3 trailer provided and the quality is top class. Watching the videos lengthways is probably better.
Navigating through songs is easy with the 5 way button and the home menu is familiar to people who had the last Sony model, but why change the good things? You can have any album work for any song which is great. Just choose a picture file saved in your computer.
I have only had this player a day but it has certainly bettered my expectations. No doubt if you are looking for an Ipod Nano alternative this is it, and 4gb is plenty of space considering songs from your CDs go on in ATRAC format which saves alot of space. For this it says the sound quality is less but you really can't tell, the sound is great. Another good feature is being able to import files from Media Player which saves alot of time.
Everything about this mp3 player is superb. My only big concern when buying this was SonicStage, but I have been pleasantly surprised and relieved by it's effiency. I bought this for £125 which is good anyway but Amazon has a cheaper price so buy it now!!!

AMAzining...,,, to good
mp3 is great can't really fault it. The screen quality is immense better and bigger than any other mp3 player on the market by far, its ok to watch a film on but its a bit too small .all i use it for is little clips which i have taken.
The software is fine dont know what ppl are going on about its a bit slow at finding track info and it doesnt automaticly find the cover just pops up with a little pic of it in the corner of the screen and i just drag and drop it on the cd icon for that ablum.
The only problem i have with the software is it puts video on slow. it took me 50mins to put on a 60min mountain biking film which is dvd quatliy but that was compressing it too it took it down from 2.5gb to 350mb which is good.
i love it and i would reckomend it
