Fantastic

Like other people I found this a bit of a bother to set up. I could not make it work without a scart cable (maybe I was supposed to know this? but none of the diagrams showed a scart). Also I could not find a way to connect my digital box in alongside it, other than by running the two entirely separately. Once the aggravation of setup was over however, I fell in love with it. Personally I find the interface very easy to use, and find it fantastic that you can simply skip from the digital guide to recording the programme in a couple of presses. I also love, love, love, the fact that you can ask it to record a whole series for you. For me that was what sold me on the Sony, and I'm not disappointed in it.

Excellent Value for Money

(5 out of 5) by Old Bear on Jan 21, 2008
After much research and waiting for the price to drop I purchased a HXD870 last week. It is a fantastic piece of kit and replaces my Sony Freeview Box and Philips DVD Player, the picture quality on both Freeview and DVD is far better than before. The only bit of bother was connecting it to my 13 year old Sony TV as its handbook was written before such devices where created but using a bit of common sense I was up and running in less than an hour, even the pause live tv function works with my aged tv. Its vital that you work slowly through the wiring diagrams and inital set up stages as they are not that clear, but once you get going it is very simple to opperate. Worst function - the EPG isn't as clearly displayed as the Sony Freeview. Best function - the ability to skip past entire commercial breaks. A very well built and designed unit.
