Brilliant!

(5 out of 5) by P. Creasey on Jun 14, 2007 (UK)
The good lady wanted an MP3 player (not an ipod) with a decent interface - (can't get on with stroking my creative vision to scroll), long battery life, nice display and in pink or purple. Look no further - this feels brilliant (comfortably solid yet small and tactile), sounds great and looks the part too.

No problems with running the sonic stage software - takes a while to download wma music from your hard drive compared to the drag and drop of windows media player as it has to translate it into its own sony format (and it doesn't always find the album art either), but once you're unhooked from the pc its bliss.

Not cheap at present but an object of delight nonetheless.

Is it a conspiracy?

(5 out of 5) by S. Powell on Jun 21, 2007
i have been looking at buying an mp3 player for a couple of years at least, waiting for a product that i wanted. Having had a Sony ATRAC CD player i had converted all my music into this format with a view to buying a Sony mp3 player. Sony have been critisized almost by every review i read during this time but having read Drsax's review i finally took the risk. I have always found Sonic Stage a good program and have always preferred it to itunes for my computer at least. My son has an ipod and itunes works well but having transferred music onto my Sony i think it is betetr in this respect as well. i have to wionder if all these reviews are not posted by Apple!! The Sony looks and sounds great and is easy to use. Highly recommended.

NWA806A

(5 out of 5) by Marc Jennings on Aug 28, 2007 (UK)
I've purchased this mp3 player a few days ago and am very impressed with it. My wife has an ipod nano and the sound quality is far better on the Sony even when compressing files to 48kbs. It is very simple to use and I have had no problems at all with the Sonic Stage software.

Note that some people have said that it is not an mp3 player and only plays ATRAC files thus conversion is required. This is incorrect as the unit will play mp3 and wma files without converstion but you still need to use Sonic Stage to transfer them to the player and select this option in Sonic Stage.

I'd highly recommend this player if your looking for an alternative to the ipod.

All out of superlatives...

(5 out of 5) by Paolo Holmano on Aug 18, 2007 (UK)
I have a new laptop (Compaq Presario) with Windows Vista Home Premium, and due to compatability problems, and the sheer size of my old MP3 player (Zen MicroPhoto), I decided to get myself a new one. The choice was between a Nano and the Sony, and I have to say I'm actually suprised by how good this product actually is. For the price, its a steal. The software does exactly what it says, and I haven't had any probs with it yet. The headphones, with their 'comfort teet' thing fit perfectly into your ear, and come with different attachments if they don't. The video function really didn't come into my thinking when I was purchasing it, but the prospect of watching Happy Gilmore on the train to work is getting me all excited. Well done Sony.

Blows the ipod out of the water!

(5 out of 5) by Mr. I. W. Rowlands on Jul 14, 2007 (London, UK)
After several years of using an ipod, first in mini form and later as my video ipod I have decided to switch to the new Sony NW-A808, Walkman and was totally blown away by it. I have had nothing but trouble with my ipods...getting them to talk to my pc, crashing, freezing, slow responses, charging, cluncky itunes, software and firmware updates etc.

Salvation at last!! The Sony NW-A808 is a true revelation. A beautiful devise that given it's tiny size is astonishing. The sound quality is staggering in my view compared with the ipod and the video playback is mezmorising despite only being a 2" screen - and in widescreen mode it is incredible. No way a Nano can be compared to this.

As for battery life this is excellent, with about 30 hours music playback or 8 hours video playback - again no comparison with the ipod....sorry Apple.

I was so pleased with how easy sonic stage was to use and install and the upload/download is great.

The ability to make playlists on the device and "trash" tracks you decide you didn't actually want, or are bored of (directly on the walkman) is pure genius in my opinion.

This really is the full package in my view and I am delighted to see Sony finally come up with a product that is a true ipod killer.

Only downside is I wish there was more than 8GB but I bet Sony will be launching a 20GB+ version at some point if they have any commercial sense for the future of this unit.

Well done Sony I am very impressed and a total convert!!!!
