french lessons
this item is easy to use and comes with batteries so it is ready to go. I am learning french and use it to tape my teacher so i can listen to the lesson again and again. Can see this item having many uses and the price is very good.

Excellent product, good quality recording
I am a singer/songwriter and when I record tunes on the piano, it helps me memorise some melodies I created and I can always erase something if I don't like it. Worth the buy. Sony is a good brand!

Brilliant buy
I purchased this for my Dad's 80th birthday, so that he could note the miles and times on long journeys, then he could write them up later. He was delighted with it and keeps it with him at all times to record other things such as shopping lists and what he needs to go upstairs for. He is absolutely delighted with it. It is very simple to use and the display is clear. Playback is good quality and it is small enough to keep in a pocket.
It doesn't use tapes, so no fiddling around, but holds plenty of message time and separate folder space.
Probably the best present I have ever given!

Sounds Good
Having tried an Olympus years ago (it soon failed, as it happens) I went for a cheap version since I don't need specialist functions but would sometimes find a recorder handy instead of writing notes. I chose this on basis of other reviews, and on evidence so far made the right choice.
My only problem was that by mistake I pressed Record one night and it recorded (silence) for about twelve hours. Entirely my fault, of course, but it fair wore down the batteries. Up to that point it seemed that those who praised the battery life were right - and even after the mishap they are still working away. There is a Hold button which allows you to switch the whole thing off, so my mistake really was mine.
The only slight problems I notice are that you get a lot of background noise if there is any (engine noise, etc), and recording from an external source such as tv is not good quality. But hey, for this money what do you expect? It is easy to use, the folders are clever, it's light and small and the sound on basic oral notes is excellent. Oh, and delivery was really rapid from Amazon. So I am very pleased.

Sony Digital Recorder ICD B500
A neat, light and reasonably priced digital recorder.
However, it takes a while to get the hang of it especially if you are a bit of a technophobe, like me! Ie. you need to select a 'folder' etc. before recording. Erasing also requires practice.
Overall, a good quality purchase at a great price.
