Very Good Value

(5 out of 5) by Richard Allen on Nov 17, 2007
I can only agree with what has already been said. I spent a lot of time looking at various web sites to buy a basic printer. I was a little concerned at the very low price on this one, but it has turned out to be the bargain that I hoped for. I use it with both XP and Vista. In both cases it installed very easily and I've been using it now for a month with no problems. It prints as well as other similar printers I've owned in the past (one of which was an Epson, which I wouldn't recommend due to the high ink costs). I would highly recommend this Canon for those who want a simple, low volume home printer.

Cheap & cheerful budget printer that does its job

(4 out of 5) by T. Andrews on Jul 22, 2007 (Scotland)
I bought the Pixma iP1800 because its straightforward and Vista compatible & best of all, a great price.

First things - this printer IS ink hungry and the cartridges expensive which can easily be solved by buying ink refills and refilling it yourself.

Using this method, the printer is worth every penny as I use it for printing documents mostly.

The printer has the facility to 'turn off' the colour cartridge and just use black ink. In my experience everytime you print something you still use up colour ink anyway so i'm dubious as to the use of this function except when you run out of colour and just want to print in black.

In summary, if you are ok with refiling your own ink i'd rate this a 5, if you aren't it would be a 3.

Overall 4 - an excellent budget printer that did its job for what i wanted it for.

Does what it says it will...

(4 out of 5) by Mr. M. J. Enright on Nov 8, 2007
... on the package. However I agree with T. Andrews that it is a thirsty blighter, and if I could figure out how to refill a 'fine' cartridge I would be doing so ( probably at this moment ).

Just make sure that you have a spare standard usb to male mini usb type connector lead because it doesn't come with one. That seems to be a bit short sighted of Canon.

Quality Bargain

(5 out of 5) by OJ on Jun 22, 2007
I agree with Jeremy! Great product for the price. I researched for a while and read many reviews praising what you get for your money with this printer. It came onto the market recently and looks great too. Warranty is 90 days if you're worried about that sort of thing, but canon products rarely go wrong, and amazon has great customer service anyway!

Great for the price.

After going through two Epson printers in the space of eighteen months, I decided I had enough of that brand and looked around both online and in stores for a replacement. As I only really need a printer for invoices etc I settled on this machine and after operating it now for a few weeks I can safely say that it is well worth the money.
It was relatively easy to install, needed no extra calibrations, prints quickly and quietly. Yes, it goes through ink but no more than my epsons did and the cartridges are a couple of quid cheaper to replace, though I will refill mine.
A couple of people have marked it down because it doesn't come with the usb cable, luckily I had one already. A few years ago it was standard to have to purchase a plug separately from any electrical appliance one brought and you had to put it on yourself when you got home. Fortunately, we've moved on from there, but printer manufacturers should take note that the same principle should go with their printers ... include the usb cable and you'll have much happier customers!
