IXUS 70

(5 out of 5) by Paul on Apr 28, 2007 (UK)
As a point and shoot this is perfect. It's small and incredibly easy to use. In the default auto setting it adjusts itself to almost every situation in a fraction of a second and produces large, crystal clear pictures with ease. If you happen to know you're going to be in a specific situation, the range of pre-set situations settings just tweak it that bit further.

The face recognition technology tracks people's faces and adjust portions of the picture accordingly, producing excellent shots in clubs etc which i expect is where alot of people my age will use it. If you delve deeper into the menus there are an awful lot of various settings you can fiddle around with but im yet to venture from the defaults which work just fine.

The only downside is the lack of a case - i bought the DCC-60 case which fits fine but just doubles the size of the camera in your pocket. Another word of warning is the PC software. It refused to install itself on Vista, so after a quick call to Canon's technical support desk it transpired that none of the bundled CD software actuallys works on Vista yet, so you have to plug the camera into the PC and let Vista find the drivers and software itself. Aside from thats it's been plain sailing and i can't give the camera itself anything less than 5 stars.

Great little camera

(4 out of 5) by Ms. Pamela J. Gavin on Aug 6, 2007 (UK)
I tried various cameras before deciding on this one. Doesnt feel cheap and plastic, has a nice little bit of sturdy weight behind it. Rechargeable battery....always a consideration as the AA taking types are a nightmare. Although its not the biggest zoom about, the zoom is fantastic.....when using the screen (with full zoom) the picture will be very blurred but upon taking the picture its super clear. Some nice little function modes as well such as "animals and children", "fireworks", "aquarium". Setting for all different lightings. Has continious picture capability which is great if you want to do stills of a moment. The macro feature is excellent quality. Also a nice little touch on viewing back the pictures is that when you tilt the camera on its side the picture turns with you so you can still view it (not really required but nice touch).
All in all this is as good a camera as your going to get for up to about the £200 range. Nice and compact too fits nicely in the handbag. Top rating.

A must - Buy it NOW!

(5 out of 5) by Jack Taylor on May 29, 2007 (Lincoln, UK)
My dad has the original APS format of this camera so when I saw it in the digital format I had to have it. It is very easy to use and dispite what other reviews say the software has been updated and does run on windows vista (as it says on the disc). The lowepro napoli case 5 is also a must as is a perfect fit, like it was made only for this camera. It is not bulky like other camera cases. I did not order it in the bundle but bought it from jessops so I could see how it looked in the flesh.

The camera has some great features such as colour filtering. You can take some really profesional looking photos that are black and white with selected colours only, eg all black and white except the blue sky.The face recognition feature is also a very good feature and there is no fooling it with "fake faces" - such as masks. Clever stuff!

This camera is really very good and for £165 you won't find a better one. Its even better knowing its £250 in shops (see John Lewis or Jessops website).

The images and screen are both very sharp. I dont know how it fairs with movies but I dont really care as I only want to take photos! The software it comes with also allows you to edit the images and can even merge similar pictures together with no visable sign of the join.

As you propably know it has many features for the technically minded wanting to do specific things but it is so easy to use even your grandma can just point and press and then see the outcome.

I would recommend it to anyone!

The slimmest Canon Digital IXUS yet...

(4 out of 5) by Josh W on Apr 11, 2007 (UK)
The slimmest Canon Digital IXUS yet - this camera takes great photos in nearly all conditions - images have great colour and good detail - indoors images can be a little noisey, and the flash might be a bit weak for large group photos (as is the case with pretty much all ultra compact cameras) - but other than this - the camera is very good - very compact (it will fit in any pocket!) - very stylish with a great metal body and a great 2.5" screen - it's very clear and very bright. The camera has a lot of "fun" features such as My Colours - but it also gives you good control on how your images turn out - for example if you want them bright and colourful switch to Vivid mode. It's a shame there's no case provided, but otherwise, this camera is very good, and the price is very good too! You can view sample photos on www.digicamreview.com in the Gallery.

Great Camera For My Young Lifestyle

(4 out of 5) by Mrs. L. E. Snowden on Dec 18, 2007
When I recieved the ixus I was pleased with its overall image, with the black rim and lens making it look very hip.
The buttons on the back are not quite as fancy as some of the other compact canons aas the whole surface has a matte finish.
The buttons are fairly large and easy to press.
It is very very slim too and fairly light. It allows you to fit it into your pocket easily without noticing it all tthat much. I however keep it in the canon leather case which is a nice good quality case, however it makes it almost twice as thick in depth.

Now to the FUNCTIONALITY!!!!
It takes a very quick picture. You have to focus it before you take the p;icture which is fine most of the time until it doesn't focus which in turn makes it not shoot. The pictures are very nice quality and are nice and vibrant. Having the capabilites of 7mp does improve the image quality when compared to a camera which has 5mp.
The macro funtion is good, and the other differnt taking modes are good also.
The video funtion is great working at 30 frames per second. On the player itself it allows you to view and edit the videos. This involves cutting the video to the wright length. It also allows you to play the video back in slow motion at your chosen speed which is great when reviewing sporting activies like my golf swing.
The flash on the camera is very bright making night pictures very clear and light, which is good most of the time.
The whole functionallity of the camera is very quick and impressive.
I have seen a number of my freinds cameras including my parents and the Canon cameras are clearly the easiest to use and pick up the hang of.

If your looking for something a little bit cooler and slighly classier the Canon Ixus 75 is at a great price at the moment £130!! It is has slighly more depth but this is only because of the curves. It holds all tghe features of the 70 + a few more. It also has a nice 3 inch screen compared to the 2.5. inch on the Ixus 70. And the back is more glossy and professional.

There are 2 main flaws to the camera:
1. There is no visible battery metre on the camera, however it does tell u when its renning low giving you about 10 minutes of use.
2. When it is plugged into the computer the camera runs off its own battery using just as much energy up as it would when in normal use, you don't have to have it in the computer for long though, 5-10 minutes max.

Overall Its a great camera but if you're looking for something a little bit more impressive in looks and quality I would go for the CANON IXUS 75 which is only £10 more expensive at £130.
