Interested with the pretty good reviews for this pruduct and the reduced price , I thought i'd order it... big mistake.
How can amazon justify packing a dvd writer in a stiff cardboardbox, and the box is too big anyway, resulting in god knows how many knocks before it reached me. Theres no bubble wrap, jiffy, anything. Just a big stiff cardboard box.
Anyway, the first item was faulty, it could be the packaging did the damage, im not sure.
I warned amazon about the packaging before they sent me the replacement.
Replacement came in the same shoody packaging. And was in worse working order than the first.
Make ure own mind up as to wether the postage and packing did the damage, or if the item is just lousy.
Either way , I highly recommend you DO NOT buy any delicate electrical good etc from amazon.

Wasn't sure if it was entirely sensible but I thought, as the price is so reasonable, I would order this DVD Writer as a replacement for a Pioneer DVD 111DBK which had only lasted one year! I was also concerned about the other review saying it arrived damaged twice as it was in an oversized box with no packing. So, it was compatible, well priced and I had a great need...oh....and I trust Amazon! It ticked enough boxes for me to take the chance.
Box arrived next day. The packaging was slighty bigger than the unit and had one brown box inside another. Yes, the unit could slide about an inch backwards and forwards but I didn't feel like it would have caused a problem. Anyway, mine arrived in perfect condition and worked properly as soon as installed. Only hope is now it lasts longer than the last one!

As with the previous reviewer, the writer arrived in typical OEM packaging. However, 5 minutes out of the box, I had it up and running; it works as advertised. Previous reviewer must have had bad luck as I have been buying all sorts of items from Amazon for nearly 10 years and have never received anything I had to send back.

Ordered this item and it arrived within a few days in a large cardboard box, wrapped in bubble rap. I installed the device into a free bay and connected both internal cables to it. I have this as my main dvd drive and use the other one as a secondary unit. The Pioneer DVR-112D does not come with any cables, however your P.C. should have an internal power splitter cable and an IDE cable to connect to it, if not they are not that expensive to purchase and just attach it to one already there. If you just want to replace the one you already have, then disconnect the current drive and replace it with the new one. Instructions come in a fold up sheet and are clear and well explained, with a few diagrams.
I've burned a few dvd disks on it and found it fairly quick and for the price you pay, it is a bit of a bargain. With the addition of playing and recording dual layer disks I have to recommend it.

Ordered one of these in grey and it works perfectly - pretty fast, never had a write problem yet - just connect up to the internal cables as normal and off it went.
