Best digital camera I own

(5 out of 5) by Ian Clark on Aug 16, 2007 (Reading, UK)
I was a little nervous buying a camera from the company that made my TV. From the moment it was delivered I have been amazed at the light weight yet solid feel and the excellent results in a wide range of lighting conditions. 7mpx give great detail when printed at A4, and zoomed to three or four times that size. A good camera for anyone who wants great quality pictures without needing a masters degree in electronics.

FZ8 - fantastic!

Panasonic DMC-FZ8EB-S Digital Camera - Silver (7.2MP, 12 x Optical) 2.5" LCD

Looked around for a long time and read lots of reviews on which digital camera to buy as a beginner. Settled on the Panasonic FZ8, even though it isn't the latest model (FZ18 had already been released).

Am very happy with the quality and ease of use of this camera. It's light but doesn't feel flimsy, has good battery life, good light balance, excellent zoom lens and takes superb quality pictures.

The first outing was to Silverstone for the classic car racing and the pictures I took as a beginner came out really well with the auto settings.

Don't be miss-led into thinking you need millions more mega pixel images - you don't. When you look at the pictures you have taken in its highest resolution I think you would be very hard pressed to notice much difference between this and the later models.

The menu interface is very easy to use and only took a couple of minutes playing with to obtain good pictures. There are some further options to play with as you develope your skills.

There are a few extras on the market including a fish eye lens and macro lens to increase it's range or use. The macro settings on the camera give very good results.

Overall I am very pleased with this camera and have used it more than any other camera I have owned over the years. I don't think you will regret choosing one of these.
