Great Early Camera

(4 out of 5) by A. L. Rex on Oct 5, 2009 (Dorset)
Like any canon this takes excellent photos and has plenty of features for someone who wants to take pics but is not into photography.

The recycle time is like most of these digital cameras a bit slow and it is supplied with a rediculously small memory card particularly when you look at what you can get a few gig for today.

Excellent photos from an inexpensive camera

I've had the A460 for a couple of years now, and it has had its share of knocks and bumps in that time, yet still works fine. The picture quality is great, I use it all the time for the cover of my magazine, and have had people asking me who takes the great pictures for the cover.

My only gripe is that it is quite fickle about rechargeable batteries. The charger might be telling me that a battery is fully charged, but
put it in the camera and all too often it is reported dead, or dies very soon afterward. I would prefer a built in LI-ON battery, but it seems you have to spend an awful lot of money with Canon to get one of these.

I would certainly recommend the A460, and I imagine that as it is a few years out of date now, could probably be picked up at a bargain price.

Lovely Camera when it lasted...

This was bought as a gift for me, lovely clear pictures, and took plenty of photos with a good rechargeable batteries.
However I warn anyone taking it on holiday as it got sand in the lens (although kept in case) sent it back to canon and sand particles in lens was excluded from warranty... only had it 6 months.....

Good All rounder

Bought this camera with a little trepidation, as have always been a Nikon user, Was bought as a point and shoot to compliment my SLR outfit.
The main reason I chose this one was it reviewed well and was said to be very good on battery consumption, well the better marked reiews werent wrong. Battery life is the best I have heard of. I am still only on my second set and believe me I do use this camera, have taken in the region of 400 images in the 3 months since I bought it.
The preset scene settings are more than adequate if a little hard to get used to so I find myself shooting in either Auto or Manual modes most times. One minor issue is that the camera seems to overexpose by about 0.5 stop in manual mode, no problem though once you know about this, just set the exposure compensation to couteract this and images are correctly exposed.
One addition I would recomend is a flipup viewfinder cover, This shields the screen from unwanted glare and also protects the LCD screen. Overall a very good camera.

I am no good with cameras, when my husband got a new one it was beyond me, and too big, so i set out to find a new one and this one seem to be what i was looking for and its not let me down, its so simple to use,it comes with software for the pc if you need it (i didn't) when the camera is all set up and you have photo's to upload just plug it in useing the lead which comes with the camera and away you go it that easy my 12yr old can do it. Best thing is it also looks good. Excellent camera.
