Simply M-Azing
Being the proud owner of a Squeezebox, I spent quite some time choosing a set of speakers to compliment it. After some time searching and browsing various forums and looking at numerous product reviews (including What Hi-Fi who give these five out of five stars and say that they are the best speakers for under £100 you could possibly buy) I knew that they were for me.
Upon receiving them, as others have said, I was pleasantly surprised by the weight and build quality. But, once I had connected them to my Squeezebox, surprise quickly turned to amazement - the sound quality is quite simply stunning. I am now listening to music in a different light, and am kicking myself for not getting these sooner.
The bass from the subwoofer (about the size of a 'normal' speaker) is excellent on setting 1, setting 2 is for serious bass-heads (or people who enjoy annoying neighbours) and setting 3 means you can watch much loved ornaments bouncing themselves to an early grave whilst holding your hands over your ears (although at least you cannot hear the neighbours banging on the wall which is a blessing)!
The treble and mid range are pumped out from tiny speakers (as stated in other reviews not much bigger than a bag of sugar) but what great sound they pump out - clarity is truly stunning.
If you want a set of speakers for under £100 then there are loads out there, but if you want a set of speakers that sound stunning then regardless of your budget it is worth considering these - they are definitely up there with the big boys and at a fraction of the price.

Mind-Blowing Speakers!
I previously owned some Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers and thought they were pretty good, that was until my brother purchased some of these Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 speakers. As soon as he turned them on for the first time I immediatley went online and purchased some for myself. I can't express enough in words how awesome these speakers sound! There is absolutely no comparison between these and Altec Lasing 2.1 speakers, or any other 2.1 system I have since listened to including Logitech, Creative, Sony, JBL and Bose. The clarity of the speakers is excellent and the bass is mind blowing, they sound perfect across all frequency ranges, really bringing the music alive. There are 3 bass settings, Level 2 seems the best overall with level 1 ok if you have neighbours and level 3 if you you like 'floor shaking / window shattering' bass. These speakers can go extremely loud without any imperfections. You would think these would cost a whole lot more than their current retail price.
Visually, the speakers look great. The build quality of these speakers is fantastic and the wires are of very high quality with gold plated plugs and connections. There is an extra output for a center speaker that can be purchased separately, but in my opinion it's not essential. There is also a 3.5mm input on the front of the sub woofer to connect your MP3 player which is convenient.
If you're looking for a 2.1 speaker system and take pleasure in listening to superior quality sound then look no further than the Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 active speaker system. Seriously, they're awesome!!

Revealing Sound. Minimalist Heavyweight Design.
"Buy it." (Used with Apple computer).
Plastic fantastic fans steer clear. Out of box, immediate impressions were speakers solidly built.
Do not be fooled by diminutive black satellite speakers. Elegantly designed, firing in upward elevation, utilizing minimal desk space, in a satisfying heavyweight, black metal textured casing. Quality.
The sub-woofer is another all black heavyweight story. 3 bass settings. "Setting 1" provided ample bass for my music library. Experimenting with positioning of sub-woofer proved fun as bass response varied with room positioning. Sits in room corner position, next to leather chesterfield, resulting in tighter bass resonance.
"The Breaking of the Fellowship" (Lord of the Rings soundtrack) - Extremely revealing, wonderfully eerie presentation with wide choral soundstage from the satellite speakers. I shut my eyes and soaked up unfolding emotion.
"Court & Spark" (Herbie Hancock feat. Norah Jones) - Norah came to life. My heart skipped a quaver beat as I looked for Norah's sultry lips behind my Apple screen. The satellite speakers performed Hancock's subtle jazz piano play in naked detail. All instruments revealed in crystal clarity.
"The Fun Lovin' Criminal" (Fun Lovin' Criminals) - bite down on a scooby snack and prepare for liquid bass. Use bass responsibly.
Occasionally on the "bright" side. Would like to see Acoustic Energy develop/evolve this EGO, along lines of Bowers and Wilkins (B&W) design and big sound principles/philosophies.
Bought my AE EGO direct from manufacturer. Bravo.
Pros: Superbe, elegant, all black, minimal design. Transparent high frequencies. Revealing. Studio
monitor like.
Cons: Would like to hear more mid-range frequency detail. Next EGO version perhaps.
"Highly recommended."

Puts my old speakers to shame
This is absolutely hilarious. I bought these speakers, was woken up by postman this morning bearing them aloft. I could barely contain my excitement as I ripped them out of the packaging. 'But they are so tiny' I cried as the satellite speakers were revealed from behind the bubblewrap. I brought them over to my computer desk and set them up, like tiny dwarves in front of my massive old stereo speakers. Tentatively I pulled the Phono cable out of the back of my stereo and inserted it into the plentiful subwoofer on the Aego speakers. I turned the bass to setting 3, if the satellites were so small this would surely make up for it? I carefully began to turn the tiny little volume knob on the subwoofer. The post-hardcore sounds of Madina Lake began to flood my dining room, so much so I didn't get the volume knob past a third - and it was LOUD at that, far too loud for 10 in the morning and my retired neighbours. The best thing is the way these tiny, but albeit very solid, nearly entirely metal speakers quite literally dump all over the thirty times (and I have measured this in 3 dimensions) speakers behind them. Soon the big speakers will have to move and let the tiny newcomers take there place physically as well as musically. I would hesitantly say these are actually better than my old 5.1 creative system I had three years ago at university. I don't know how the guys at acoustic energy have done it, but somehow they have created the sound equivalent of the tardis. I reckon these things could even give my Dad's three foot high wooden floor standing speakers a run for their money. Seriously buy these now.

Amazing 2.1 system
This is an amazing 2.1 system that just oozes quality both in terms of sound presence and physicality.
Bought to replace a pair of bookshelf speakers supplied with my Onkyo micro hifi. The Aego M's just blow the supplied Jamo speakers into oblivion. Sound is incredible, very well balanced with no distortion at all from such small speakers. Build quality is superb with all leads, inc speaker cables, supplied.
The service from Amazon was exceptional. Ordered at 1pm Thursday - arrived the next day at 9 am.
I will be ordering another pair for my daughter next week for her bedroom but this time in white.
