The lid broke - but Amazon are replacing it

(4 out of 5) by L. Dyckhoff on Mar 29, 2007 (Edinburgh, UK)
I've had one of these for 9 months, and the lid is now so loose that it hardly stays on. I checked on Bytestor's website and they offer a 2 year guarantee, through the original seller, so I contacted Amazon on Tuesday and asked if the cap could be replaced, and today they've posted me a replacement, no charge. Fantastic, well done Amazon (-1 star for the lid not being that secure in the 1st place). Otherwise I have been very happy with the flash drive, and bought other ones for family at Christmas.

This Is A Survivor

(5 out of 5) by Bluenote on Aug 11, 2007 (UK)
Just to report that one of these devices has survived an accidental 45min, 40C wash cycle. It came out looking as good as new, and after I left it to dry for a few hours I plugged it back in. Perfect; all files intact. I'd certainly recommend this device but my main recommendation has to be to check your pockets before putting your clothes in the wash.

Big Five Stars so far.

(5 out of 5) by Negotiator on Jul 29, 2007 (Nottingham, UK)
Read the review before me that talks about the drive failing. My condolences because that sounds like an awful thing to happen.
As for me and my experience with the Flash drive, I have to say it's been plain sailing. I originally bought the 2 GB version to transport my Word; Excel and Powerpoint files around and it was great. Only problem was my wife started using to carry her Powerpoint files around! So I gave her that one and bought this 4 Gb.
This is working great since I purchased in april (Yep, I'm a slow reviewer too!). I think that they are absolutely marvelous. I always used to carry around a messenger bag stuffed with policy documents and guides to meetings so I could stay on top of my work, but now I carry this! Straight into a laptop or desktop and I have books' worth of info at my fingertips. I use all the time and have had no problems whatsoever.
However, it is never my only source of backup. I use it for transporting files - NOT as my primary backup. I backup every 2-4 weeks onto an external 250gb hard drive (they cost roughly £50 - see Western Digital My Book on Amazon Search then check Similar Items). If my desktop ever fails, it's all there.
Any ICT person will tell you the same. Except they'll tell you to backup a lot more regularly than I do.
My Opinion: Flash drives for transport and External Hard drives for back-up/ Storage.

Piece of mind

(5 out of 5) by Tommy Robert on Aug 11, 2007 (Sutton, Surrey, England)
I previously bought 1gb, then 2gb and now have three 4gb drives which I use as a back up to store photos's and important documents on. I have used the 1gb & 2gb drives to ferry files to and from work and have never had a problem with any of them. Must say I feel sorry for the chap who lost his universary work, but things this small, regardless of make, are probably prone to failure if carried around in pockets and not handled with some care. I would not depend on anything this small as the only store for my valuable files. Having said that I have not had a failure so it has not been a problem, so would recommend these drives without hesitation.

Such a boon

(5 out of 5) by Mr. Michael Domnin on May 31, 2007 (Kent, UK)
I had a 128 Mb, my wife a 512 Mb, I bought the 4 GB. We both have been happy to save writing documents and photos.
CDs sometimes are not compatible, but I 've never experienced any incompatibility with Bytestore.
They are quick, recognized by Windows XP - something that external hard drive may not be (as I experienced with Western Digital MyBook essential). They are small to pile them in a tray. I would buy them again to update my documents and photos! they are so efficient!
