If you are a runner, then this HAS to be on your shorts somewhere. Steve Jobs has freed up the lone-runner experience over the past few years. Only 4 or 5 years ago my right hand had a Sony Waterproof Cassette Walkman velcro'ed to it (if the Walkman was clipped to your waist it jumped and warbled too much) which also meant to carry a water bottle tied up both your hands.
The first generation iPod Shuffle was a revalation, not only could you carry more music than you needed even for a marathon but it fitted into the key pocket on most running shorts. (but your house key was relegated to being tied on to your laces)
Now with the new version, you can clip it to your shorts and feel no bulk or weight atall whilst running along to all your best running and motivational tunes. And your keys can go back into the thoughtfully placed pocket on your shorts.
The included headphones, like for all iPods are pretty awful and do not stay in your ears when running but other than that the new Shuffle has to be the best workout kit (and bargain) of the year.
As of this week in the US Apple have released the Shuffle in a number of different (bright and terrific) colours. They are outstanding.....
Great companion for running and cycling
This new shuffle is just fantastic, I have downloaded the complete wildhearts album backlog to it plus all the solo stuff from the band (about 20 albums) and still have masses of space left. It is ideal for my running and cycling as I just clip it to something even a sleeve end and it stays put. The sound quality is great, i was a little worried about that having been unimpressed with my last couple of MP3 players. Finally it has survived two or three pretty brutal mountain bike smash's, and a couple of monsoons, and is still looking new and in great working order. So good I am getting some more for the family.
Pinkeriffic!
I bought this for my wife as she loves all things pink.
We have two little girls and this seems like the most indestructible option as it has a metal finish and no screen to crack!
Needless to say, the sound quality is very good and it is incredibly easy to use.
I have a Creative Zen which I love, but if I'm out doing something active, I may have to 'borrow' the Shuffle for a while! As it is flash memory with no moving parts, and has the metal case I mentioned previously - this should be a long lasting gadget addition to our home.
The looks are phenomenal, no pictures do this any justice, it has to be held in the hand to realise how gorgeous and small this little delight is.
When you hold it, the build quality becomes apparent, the metal finish feels lovely and the metal on off switch is not easy to accidentally knock and switch the thing off.
For anyone who wants a basic MP3 player then I can recommend this, there ARE cheaper ones out there, but this looks and feels like a quality piece of kit. ...and the built in clip comes in handy!
iPod rocks! :)
Quite simply the best thing i've saved up for!
I'm a fair weather runner - but need my music to keep me motivated. I'd been relying on my phone - but have recently broken my earphones and am sick of rubbish radio tunes - so saved up and invested!
It's light and very portable (the clip is a fab idea) oh and well pink - so you can't go wrong.
Only criticism is the earphones. They are too noisy to others if you are on the train and they are not well created for runners (as they fall out)
However the iPod is an essential for runners - especially not brilliant ones like myself - no changing, shuffling, finddling with buttons required. Just plug in and press play! Hurrah!
Heaven
My kids all have 4GB ipods but i decided to purchase this as I had a long flight to endure and as a busy Mum, I don't have enough time to upload 1000songs!. It is briliant. Love the way it just clips on. I thought the fact that it doesn't have a display screen would be a problem but it isn't. Earphones that are supplied hurt my ears after a while, so I brought some decent ones for £15. Just means that we have a spare set if one of the kids break! It's my lifesaver, when the house is chaos....just clip on my ipod and float off into my own little world :-)
