ultra mini system with good sound, but do understand....

(3 out of 5) by Adam Jones on Aug 10, 2007 (London)
The plus points: This unit is incredibly small and takes absolutely no room on any desk or shelf surface. The sound from its small speakers and much larger bass woofer are quite acceptable and there are some nice "easy mode" presents for different music types. Now the negatives: It must be understood, this unit is capable of playing no music directly! It is simply a small amp unit to facilitate expansion from other devices. Ive ended up using another media player hard disk driven device to provide music to mine via the AUX socket. Although i understand it to work well in conjunction with ipods, if you don't have one the story is quite different. Although the box does have a USB port and worked with my IRiver h340 and also flash memory cards, do be aware that the on screen interface and method of navigating the files is wholly inadequate. It is almost unusable and you end up just having to play tracks on random (download the official jvc user manual pdf from their website to see what i mean). Its basically not possible to locate specific albums if you have a big directory structure of mp3s like i do. Now i have my unit i realise that im actually quite upset JVC didnt add a FM radio. It couldn't have costed anything to do so. There's not even an alarm function although it does have a programmable time function. With the usb sound device socket the system also makes a lovely computer speaker setup if you plug it directly into any modern PC or mac. Without an ipod, its not much good for a lot else unless your willing to live with these complaints.

Why are not all reviews 5 stars?

(5 out of 5) by Gadget Fan on Jul 17, 2008 (London)
I can only imagine that they bought it when it was around the £100 mark and expected a lot more. I am not aware of many iPod docks that do have the remote functions that people who have reviewed here seem to want. The Klipsch iGroove for around £100 for example only has basic remote functions.

For the money this is an amazing system, I could not believe how well put together it was when I got it out of the box. There is a really good weight to both the satellite speakers and sub woofer. The sound quality is excellent and does not need to be up too high at all before it is thumping the tunes out. I have it set up in my office, the speaker are pretty small, as is the main amp unit, and the woofer sits under the desk out of the way - so I get quite a big sound without it taking up much space.

I've also connected my TV (which is also my pc monitor) to it through the aux 3.5mm jack, direct from the TVs headphone socket (not sure if there is a better way of doing this), which means both my TV and PS3 sound soooo much better than they did before. I also have a usb audio connection from my mac to the JVC system. Lastly I have my iPod connected to it as well, and it's pretty easy to switch the input to the different sources.

So in short, it's well made, looks nice, connects up to quite a few things, and sounds great.

What a sell...

(2 out of 5) by S. Róbert on Mar 11, 2008
This set is a totally disasterfor ipod. Plays everything but you cannot control correctly through the remote. Only skip forward/backward in the previously (and manually) selected playlist, start/stop and that's all. Totally lame for my ipod 5g/30. I'm very disappointed and the description is a fake about "designed for ipod". Pffff...

JVC Mini system

Bought this to fit in bedroom and to connect to an IPOD. Excellent sound, nice compact speakers, subwoofer hides nicely by side of chest of drawers. Definitely worth considering...
