PURE Elan RV40, Portable Stereo DAB/FM Radio with ReVu
This is now my bedside radio and does all that I want it to do. It's my first experience of DAB and I am enjoying the clarity of reception, choice of stations and ease of using presets.

Well what a disappointment
Compared with our old PURE Elan (Christmas 2005) the Elan RV40 is such a disppointment. Our first DAB radio was so easy to use; the 8 presets were not only a doddle to programme, but were a "one touch" operation to flit between, making it the ideal kitchen radio, in a busy teenager shared home. Sadly the on/off switch decided not to play any more, and after a month of leaving the radio on, and using the volume control instead, we decided to be more environmentally friendly and replace it.
The RV40 was a mistake. To change the radio station, you must now press; the preset button, followed by the + button, for as many times, as to equal the number of the preset, and then press select. At a minimum that is 3 buttons to press, if like us you like BBC7 to be the seventh preset, good luck with your counting, and we hope that your children/ phone/ dog don't interupt you. Personally with 20 presets available, I'm not sure that you will use them all either.
So one of the functions that we so loved on the old model has been so altered as to make it worthless, proving once again that change is not necessarily progress.

DAB Radio Virgin
I have found pure gold in the hunt for a decent DAB radio in this product. Its stylish, easy to use and the sound quality is wonderfull. It is mains or battery operated , has a sleep timer and is a good weight and size. I am well impressed. The delivery by Amazon was quick and efficient too.

Absolutely brilliant, don't hesitate!
We all know PURE pretty much invented the portable DAB radio and reviewers are never slow to point out that PURE sets tend to sound much better than the competition. This is equally true of the new PURE Elan RV40 which is truly one of the best I've heard - and it looks more like a conventional radio too (sleek dark grey case) rather than those strange wood and plastic boxes that PURE tend to churn out - and which I don't like at all. The controls are not exactly intuitive, but with a bit of thought and practise (read the manual first!) they soon become second nature. The sound is really clean and crisp and surprisingly full - and you can crank it up pretty loud too, unlike many other "tinny"-sounding portables. I have had absolutely NO problems whatsoever with DAB sound even though the reception is supposed to be patchy in my neck of the woods. FM reception is first class too and the pause/rewind of live radio is a neat and useful feature. Add to that the inclusion of a snooze button, and you have a brilliant sounding and well-equipped portable radio. I am super-fussy about gadgets like these, but this is absolutely wonderful and I recommend it without hesitation. I also managed to find a dealer on Amazon selling it at approximately £30 less than John Lewis!!!
