Having read many reviews on the ipod nano 8gb and the Sony NWS A1200 I decided to take a closer look at this model,the Sony NWS706. I had virtually decided on the A1200 model, having ruled out ipod on day one, and decided on this model instead as it has an FM tuner too. I had to weigh up less GB against having/not having an FM tuner.
I read reviews on Amazon and Play.com and also other sites and many said the sound is superb...which it is bt that the SONIC STAGE software left alot to be desired. Well I don't agree. I am a 40 something year old housewife with no younger generation around to help me on the computer or with 'gadgets', I have to fumble my way through it myself if I want to learn and I managed perfectly easily. You just need to be able to read. Nothing to learn. I just loaded the software, making sure all programmes were closed down so as not to 'confuse it' and hey presto easy peasy. I loaded a good thirteen cds and then decided to have a go with the Sony shop CONNECT. Again very straightforward and I have purchased eight new songs and have them on the player. The player is VERY easy to use.
I also purchased the speakers and docking system...well hubby did as my 'late' Christmas gift. It looks good, sounds fantastic and I would say, having been into the shops and held and listened to the ipod that this player beats it hands down. Buy one, you won't be dissapointed.

Having purchased a similar spec. product from QVC, again similar in price, which I returned shortly after receipt as the quality just wasn't there, and neither were the noise cancelling earphones, I have to say that there is simply no comparison with this produt. Apart from being a little frustrated at first when attempting to copy album covers for compilation albums onto the unit (I missed the instruction sheet included in the package that explained how to do this!), I have found every aspect of this mp3 player extremely simple to use. A delighted customer indeed!

Yes it is true, that the Sonic player software is not as intuative as iTunes, and they had to spend a considerable amount of time burning iTunes purchased music on to CD to rip again back on to my PC on to Sonic Player. But... try this Walkman on a plane or a tube and you will be amazed by the sound quality, it really does make travelling so much more pleasant. The iPod does not even come close to Sony for sound quality. So yes not the best interface in the world, but 5 stars for certainly the best sounding MP3 player in the market!

Battery life was perfect when we first bought it but is extremely poor now . It just won't hold any charge so is scrape. Takes a long time to put all your music on so I wouldnt bother with this type again

Cannot fault the looks feel etc of this item.but having a system using vista i have a hell of a job to download music!. Ended up downloading from a friends pc with windows xp to get results. Virgin,hmv,sony,etc are as of this moment not vista friendly!?.
