(5 out of 5) by Martin on Feb 26, 2008 (London, England)I bought this Optiarc ad-7543a for my, two year old, Dell Inspiron 6000 running XP Pro with 1gig RAM, as the DVD writer that came with the laptop would never burn a successful DVD. Before buying this Optiarc, I was a bit worried as to whether it would fit the laptop or not, and more importantly if it would work.
I use two makes of burning software, a very old version of Roxio Easy CD Writer 5, with all the updates to driveup5.3.5v. but it does not recognize it as a supported DVD drive. Fortunately I also use Nero 6 and that has no problems, and so far, no coasters.
Physically it sits about 2mm further recessed into the body of the laptop than the original drive, but that is not a problem.
So if you would like to get a new DVD/CD burner for your Inspiron 6000, yes it will fit.
