SMALL BUT POWERFUL
(5 out of 5) by P. Martin on Apr 23, 2007 (Scotland)This is a first class unit. The docking mechanism has a blank to accommodate an IPOD Nano or the bigger 30Gb & 80Gb units.Sound is rich and quite spatial. Good volume - without distortion. The unit also charges the IPOD.
The remote control is small and quite funky - basic navigation but fine.
Use this now in preference to a more substantial HiFi system. Good buy - I would recommend.

European Plug
(3 out of 5) by Michelle Kilkenny on Aug 8, 2007I ordered this off Amazon & was very surprised to find that this speaker had a european 2 prong plug, rather than a 3 prong UK plug. Luckily I had a shaving adaptor plug & so I got it working, even though the fit is not very secure. Once working the sound is great & what I expected, however it has been dampened by the plug issue. It did not state anywhere that it would not have a UK plug. I do not even know if it does come with a UK plug so if anyone knows I would be interested in finding out.

JBL On Stage II vs Logitech mm50
(3 out of 5) by Alan on May 30, 2007 (United Kingdom)In this review I'll be comparing the JBL On Stage II speaker system to Logitech's mm50, since they sell for a similar price on Amazon.co.uk; £82.84 for the On Stage II vs £74.98 for the mm50. You can actually pick up the mm50 for even less than £74.98, which doesn't surprise me since JBL products are typically more expensive and "higher-end".
Comparing the sound of the two systems, side by side, the On Stage II definitely has a cleaner, sweeter sound than the mm50. The mm50 sounds dirtier and not as high fidelity. The treble is definitely stronger and cleaner on the On Stage II and the bass sounds slightly punchier. But the midrange is better on the mm50, leaving the On Stage II sounding a bit empty.
Due to it's wider design, the mm50 definitely has better stereo separation than the On Stage II, which sounds almost mono in comparison. But the On Stage II sounds better from all angles, in that, no matter where you stand, it sounds the same.
The On Stage II is a very small unit; much smaller than the mm50. But due to it's small size, you can see all the cables connected to it. So the cute look of it is kind of ruined by (up to) three cables trailing away from it. Plus, the power cable supplied with it is black, which goes against the all-white design principle. With the mm50 however, all the cables are hidden behind the speakers, which looks much tidier.
The remote control that comes with the On Stage II is the better of the two. It has five buttons, a built-in belt clip, and doesn't need to be pointed at the unit. It works via RF so you can use it up to 50 feet away from the speakers, and it works through walls, doors and duvets.
My conclusion is that, while the On Stage II sounds cleaner, the mm50 produces a more satisfying sound. Also, the mm50 is better value for money, especially as some stores sell it for £24 less than the On Stage II. So unless you need a speaker system that is extremely small and comes with a RF remote, get the mm50.

very good
(5 out of 5) by M. Buck on Feb 28, 2008 (Fleet, UK)I bought this for my sister for her birthday but was a little worried about the sound quality from such small speakers, i needn't of worried. My sister texted me to say the sound was great so when i visited i thought i'd have look, she wasn't lying, it is brilliant and loud! alot louder than you would expect! Some people have commented on the bass, but what I heard gave me no cause for comment, if you like Drum and Bass music then i'm sure it won't be good enough, but for normal chart/pop music the bass was fine.
Its neat, fitted my sister's 3G nano without any problems. I'm now brother of the month!
Only thing, its £49.99 at tesco's in store and online, so get them there!

Excellent piece of kit

Well, I was not disappointed! The sound is fantastic for such a small item and carries through the whole house.
I have put all my CDs on to an iPod, have got rid of my stereo system, and now only use this. As a bonus, it keeps my iPod charged.
The quality is also fantastic and it is compact, lightweight and portable.
My only grumbles are that it is a pity it does not have inbuilt rechargable battery and also (as others have mentioned) the plug is very large. But no matter.
