Due to loss of feeling in my hands because of MS I have trouble using the smaller digital cameras. I decided to try a larger camera and this one looked like fitting the bill. I purchased one from Amazon and it is a delight to use. I'm no pro photographer but get fine results from this camera. It does much more than I can ever utilise as a "happy snapper" so I should never need to upgrade at a later date. I particularly like the manual zoom, no using battery power when a twist of the wrist suffices. Like a lot of digital cameras it doesn't come with a memory card but I already had a couple of cards which fit it, let's be honest memory cards are cheap enough these days. It takes two types of memory cards, XD and CF with a menu choice of which to use if both are fitted. I have an 8GB CF card and a 2GB XD card fitted but only because I already had them. The 28-300mm (135 equivalent)f2.8-4.9 lens produces lovely images, sufficient for most users I imagine. The only extra items I would recommend to go with this camera would be a case and a 58mm UV filter to protect the lens, both of which I have purchased. I can't give a detailed technical appraisal of this camera but can only close by saying that it does everything I ask of it and I'm more than happy with the results.
I was thinking it will be better
I was thinking it will be better. Pre set programs are not realy brilliant. With high ISO over 400 to many red spots. On manual very good. Good lences. Very ergonomical.
FUJI S9600 CAMERA
I have been using this camera for over 2 years now.
It is still working well & gives good results.
It is far better than the heavy old 35mm cameras that I used to carry about.

Good all rounder... and VFM
There are some good reviews already... so won't repeat.
I've had the camera for just over two years now - so it is well tried and tested. It's still working well, taking really good images (in a variety of modes), with no defects in the mechanics, contrary to other reviewers.
Some features take some getting used to, but that's the case with most equipment - I find some of the 'low ratings' really strange and suggestive that the issues are user error, rather than poor equipment.
I firmly agree with one reviewer that the battery life sucks! However, the flip-out screen is really useful.
There are so many good features, it's worth reading other detailed reviews, but on the whole I don't think this camera can be beaten on value for money.

Blue cast
I bought this on the strength of the Amazon reviews and have to say I am disppointed. My main gripe is the poor white balance - many photos seem to come with a blue cast. I have read elsewhere that this is a common problem. I'd have returned or exchanged it, but had already disposed of the packaging (fool!). Also, I think the zoom is not very good - I have compared it to the Olympus c-765 which I had previously, and compared to the Olympus the s9600 is grainy under the same conditions. I've also read that it doesn't capture reds well in bright light - this has also been my experience. On the other hand it is excellent indoors, in natural light without the flash - but on the whole I've been pretty disppointed in the camera, and have now given up on it. I'm only an amateur snpper but expected better, and I have bought another C-765 on ebay, and will use the s9600 as back-up.
