I just received this yesterday and i am amazed at the quality of the prints it produces. As good if not better than you would get from a high street or online print facility. The printer works on a dye rather than ink process and the paper passes through the printer 4 times (each of the 3 colours and a glossy coat) to create the finished product.
I cannot use pictbridge with my new camera as it is a samsung but my nikon works perfectly. Pictbridge is like a mini firewire/usb port at the front of the printer. But the SD card works in the defined slot. And there is usb ports on the side of the printer.
I think the previous reviewer mentioned that they have a fuji camera and they use the XD card (if i am right). XD cards can be a problem as they are generally not well supported .
Have not connected printer to my computer yet but you do not need to as the colour lcd screen on the printer shows you the images that you can print from your memory card.
Not suitable for all digital cameras
BEWARE! I bought one the other day through QVC to discover that the fuji finepix A500 (at least) is not compatible with the printer at all without buying the attachment to read the picture cards and when you try to plug the camera in with the usb cable it keeps saying to use pictbridge which you can't. In conclusion I'm sure it is a good little printer but not for me I have sent it back and it cost £8.75 to do so, I will be buying my printer from a local shop where I can ask all the questions I need.
What a great printer!
Straight from the box this printer just plugged and played. We have Canon, Sony and Fuji cameras - all worked just fine - as did Sony and Motorola mobile phones, surprisingly!
The quality of the prints is fantastic and anyone used to inkjet printing will never go back - there is no comparison.
The printing is quick, easy and clean, and with the paper pack including the ink cartridge, you know exactly where you are.
Smart buying can get you a 108 picture pack at around £22 - just slightly over £0.20 per print. Try that with an inkjet!
The ability to use the printer stand-alone, as well as with a computer is a boon. Our daughter is a textile design student and the ability for her to pop the printer, cassette with paper and her camera in her backpack and work at college is a nice bonus.
The only reason it lost a star is the availability of the options such as greeting card paper pack, credit card cassette, etc - the UK is not well served by Canon UK
As to the previous reviewer not being able to print to a Fuji A500 - that camera is pictbridge compatible - read your camera instructions to enable pictbridge.
Fantasic Value for Money - Great prints
I brought this printer for my Mother for her birthday. It needed to be small, easy to use with great prints.
I used it this weekend with my Mother - and it is great.
Easy to put together and use. Its so small you can take it anywhere - even on holiday.
The quality of print was as good as any photo shop and for under £50 what more do you want.
You can either print by connecting the camera by the lead on the printer, via the memory card slot or by the computer. The screen is not big on the printer itself but good enough - as you can view photos on you computer.
Reading the other reviews I understand that some people feel it takes time for the photo to print - for me it was very quick and considering you can take a picture then print it instantly - what more do you want.
The photo paper does have the postcard backing - but correct me if I am wrong - you are viewing the photo not the back of the photo!
I worked it out to be 14p per print - depending on where you buy the paper/ink set.
I loved this printer so much I will be getting myself one.
Fantastic prints
I bought this mainly to use as a portable printer with a Nikon D50 but found it works equally well with a Fuji Finepix A10. The Fuji needs you to change a setting in the menus (Explained in the manual) and then both cameras act as the printer control.
The Nikon even lets you crop the picture before printing. Dates and Time stamps can be added and the quality of the prints match the ones I was getting from Jessops.
Buying the paper and ink ribbon from Amazon keeps the cost to 19p per print, without the hassle of going into a Town centre to find a print shop.
