I have owned one of these for a week and have found it to be superb. I was looking for an all in one and saw the reviews for it's predecessor the mp800 which lead me to buy this. It is very quiet in operation and prints high quality photo's. the set up was very easy and the new scroll wheel control makes operation childs play. For build quality and features I don't think you can find a better machine.
What a Beast!!!!
Never bought a printer before, But after long research and review reading I decided upon this one, after an easy set up proccess and a few test prints I realised my first purchase was the right one. This printer is darn good, does exactly what it says on the tin. I bought the printer for printing on DVDs and printing photos, both of which this printer does brilliantly. It's quite big and heavy but if you've got the room buy this beast!!!
Pixma MP810 - Best Yet!
An excellent machine. It quietly prints clear, sharp photos, scans beautifully and takes all the guesswork out of CD/DVD label printing. It also reads digital camera cards and the software is easy to use. Not a small machine but the design is tidy and not displeasing to the eye. Excellent value for money.
Initial problem but now working ok
I bought this printer because my technophobe wife was complaining that she couldn't get at our thousands of digital images on the PC. The attraction of being able to easily print good quality photos from a camera card or copy from a print without having to turn the PC on was what I wanted for her. Of course the printer also works from the PC, connected by a USB cable, (not supplied unfortunately) and the driver software has a useful print preview function.
The printer is not cheap but it does do exactly what it claims to do.
I initially had a problem: The last 1" or so of every picture was banded and distorted. I wasted many sheets of photo paper trying to clean and align the print head. I was considering returning the printer to Amazon but when I got a good light and inspected the output rollers I could see that the right hand side of the rollers had a small gap. This meant that the last section of paper was not being pulled through properly causing the problems I've described. I fiddled with the roller and it dropped down into place. I imagine the printer was probably handled roughly in transit and the roller was jogged out of place. Anyway, since then the printer has worked fine.
Perfect!
Since the dawn of home printers we relied on Epson to provide quality prints, photos etc etc... and over the years we have got through a serious number of printers.. I only got my last printer, an Epson CX3600 about a year ago, as a replacement for an Epson RX560 (or something like that!), which only lasted me a year. I do a lot of printing and I like quality, and speed and I like to be able to use lots of different media and thicknesses of paper/card etc.. and the previous Epson did all this and more, but one day it just stopped working, for no apparent reason, and NOTHING would coax it back into action. I couldn't afford the same model as a replacement, hence the CX3600. But I just wasn't happy with this. It didn't like Vellums and parchments, and would throw my card back at me all chewed up if it dared to offer anything thicker than 180gms, not to mention the considerable amount of head cleaning and aligning it needed, and I was getting really frustrated with it. It was about the same time, that my other half was finding his old Epson Stylus coming to the end of its useful life too, it had been a good workhorse, but one day that too, just gave up the ghost without warning....
So, as he does not need full on quality prints on specialist card, I offered him my CX3600 as I started to hunt for a new model.
I really decided that I wanted to try something new, away from my familiar make, and hunted high and low and read many a review. Then, one day, I came upon this little baby, the Canon MP810. I have never owned anything Canon before so was a bit dubious about moving out of my familiar territory, but the reviews were outstanding, the price was good, and it appeared to do everything and more that I wanted..
So after a few days of umming and arrghing, I went ahead and purchased the Canon , and three days later here I am with my brand new Canon MP810. I have only had it up and running for about half an hour, and believe me, setting it up was a breeze, I have managed to print out 3 pages of print, in full quality and on vellum, and I am astounded, it is perfect. I just had to share my thoughts with others considering this machine, if you are still not sure, GO for it!! You will not be disappointed..
Granted, it is a bit of a huge mother, I have had to move it to a larger desk as it is bigger than I expected, but don't let that put you off...
It is extremely quiet when printing, and does not rock around, I often found the Epson quite noisy and clunky and rocky whilst printing...
The quality of print is fantastic, and the menu on the printer LED display is very clear, and easy to follow..
I haven't even started to use all the functions yet, but will do in time, I can't see why they wouldn't be as great as what it has given me so far...
All in all, a perfect machine, I just hope it lasts a lot longer than the brand I am used to.
And finally, I hope that my other half is able to put up with his rather inferior cast-off. teehee
