The Sony CD Walkman D-EJ119. You can get these pretty cheap nowadays.
pros: 50 hours battery life on 2 AAs, decent sound quality, lcd display, pretty compact (not much wider than the size of a cd - diameter about 13.5 cm or 5.4 inches), and you really can drop it a million times before it breaks (it's advertised as drop proof).
cons: sound quality decent but not great, g-protection is a cheaper version meaning it skips quite easily. also doesn't play mp3 or atrac cds, which most newers discmans do. it WILL play all your regular cds fine though.
Nowadays Sony are only making budget models of discmans, and this one isn't bad. The major selling point is the 50 hour battery life.
Excellent portable player
The Sony walkman EJ119 is another addirion to Sony's excellent audio range. It has a stylish slim design, the diameter is only about 4mm more than that of a CD. On the front is a small circular button, and the small screen next to it. The screen can show book marks, track, and the repeat mode, all you need.
The bookmark can re start your CD at the exact same place as you left of, which can be annoying as it suddenly starts randomly, and you have forgotten where you were. The shuffle mode is useful and fine. The sound quality is good on the headphones provided, but better ones wouldn't go amiss.
Overall this is all you need to listen to CD on the go, it really is dropproof and the G-protection is good, it hasn't skipped for me yet.
It is good looking yet simple and the Quality of sound is worth it not to get a more expensive hi-tech one with radio, like the Sony black.
Thank you Sony
I am a senior citizen and borrow lots of spoken word books from my local library, what is great about the Sony EJ119 is, unlike my old ones, I can switch it off when I go out etc and it remembers where I left off! This is a great bonus.
Volume level too limited
For the price this is a very basic item, the sound quality is disappointing I have owned £12 c.d. players with sharper sound and wider volume range, I went for this item as it had good reviews for the the jog proof function, which is actually very good, but this does not make up for the fact that the volume out put is way too low for my preferences, and the sound quality is a little fuzzy. (There is a facility to choose to limit the volume, but even with this off is too low.)
