When I got my camera I quickly realised that having been a dyed in the wool photographer using cameras with "film" I now had the best of both worlds in one camera. It handled and could be used just like a proper camera.
My wife also had an slr type digital by another manufacturer. When she wanted to take some close up tripod assisted pictures I suggested a cable release. This was duly bought and screwed neatly into the threaded hole in the shutter release button. It was then that I realised that my "perfect camera" did not have provision for this facility.
Disaster, the Panasonic was no longer my perfect instrument. Quite by accident I came across this remote shutter release. Electronic! I hadn't thought of that and while the item does in fact appear in the handbook it is tucked away at the back and no mention is made of it in the section for Close up Pictures.
It was with great joy that I stumped up my eighteen quid for the item on Amazon Market Place and in no time at all it arrived from Germany. With trembling hands I opened the little door which enables access to the USB port and plugged the release into the adjacent socket. It is as smooth as silk. Pure joy to use, my equilibrium was restored, my world is now complete.
Now, it may seem to be quite a lot of money for what, after all, appears to be a fairly simple arrangement of wire and other bits. But it works, and it works perfectly, it works smoothly and it works every time. If you are serious about your photography then you should not be without this essential addition to your kit
