Unreliable

(1 out of 5) by Night man on Dec 5, 2009 (Sussex England)
Having seen these in the high street and looked at the reviews I ordered online with some reservations about reliability. Good price and excellent delivery from Avides / Amazon. The system turned on and sounded as expected and found an acceptable number of DAB stations though not all. Unfortunately after 15-20 minutes it turned off with flashing warning lights. This appears in 'fault finding' in the manual so I disconnected it, waited and turned it back on as instructed. It ran again for another 1/4 hr or so and died again. Repeatedly. I contacted Avides who by return e-mail sent me instructions and free postage on how to return it. Within a week of returning it I had notification of refund. Excellent service but I wouldn't touch one of these with the proverbial barge pole.

Sony does it again

(4 out of 5) by John D. Wallace on Dec 3, 2009
This compact hi fi from Sony does the lot - tape, CD and radio and it does them all well. The instructions are good and simple, as is the set up, and the controls are clear and easily accessible. The CD changer takes three CD's and will play them or tracks on them in any order. Rather annoyingly, as soon as you switch the machine on in whatever mode, the CD system goes through the motions of checking whether there are any CD's in the changer - an unnecessary irritation in my view. The radio aerial, scanner and auto tuner work just as they should. The tape system is good, clear and efficient, with excellent quality of sound from all types of tape. The sound for a unit of this size and price is superb, with good highs, an excellent bass response and a nice stereo spread. The volume is more than adequate for any reasonably sized room and you could easily annoy your neighbours! All in all a satisfactory purchase, excellent value for the price and well recommended.

problems

I have sent this item back once and am about to send it back again. For some reason the tuner will not tune into any station whatsoever. The company dealing with the complaint is telling me that if they can't find a problem that i can't have my money back. I think this is a regional problem therefore it will may not happen when they test it as they are in Germany and im in Cheshire England. If anyone can explain this i would appreciate it greatly.

Do not buy this product

(1 out of 5) by A. G. Fraser on Oct 3, 2009 (UK)
A deeply unreliable product. We bought one in Dec 2008. The radio tuner failed in June 2009 and a replacement was given by Amazon. The Replacement has just suffered exactly the same fault. Judging by the other negative reviews, I am not the only one to suffer this fate. Sony Customer Support is less than helpful. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT
