Excellent Piece of Kit

(4 out of 5) by Mr. J. R. Gargrave on Oct 4, 2007 (London)
I just received this nice looking and nicely voluble piece of kit from Amazon this week.

Whoever said they couldn't get the DAB to work.... plug the aeriel in!!!

Excellent sound quality..... compact..... nice presented..... you can't ask for any more than that for the price. It also costs about £40 to £50 less than if you buy it in the shops.

All in all an excellent piece of kit.

An excellent little machine for the money

(5 out of 5) by Emma H on Jul 22, 2008 (Yorkshire)
Needed a new machine and it had to have a cassette deck (as I still have a lot of homemade tapes from my youth!) and a DAB radio too so this was a perfect machine on paper and the price was excellent too!

I read a lot of the reviews and was a little worried about the sound quality and the DAB signal. But the machine was for my kitchen and wasn't going to be my "state of the art machine."

Arrived very quickly from Amazon (many thanks!) Very easy to set up, it is indeed correct that the speaker cables are not very long. I didn't appreciate this. They are about 1 metre in length maybe a little longer so please take note, it could be a problem.

Switched on the auto tune for the DAB radio and oh-no, no BBC DAB stations as all. So re-tuned again and again and again. At that point my husband said "this is crap it's going back, that cheap DAB radio from Asda can pick up DAB and we live on top of a hill with a massive TV / radio mast nearby!" But I asked him to try moving the DAB aerial and interesting when he placed it horizontally rather than vertical and then retuned the BBC stations appears as did many more stations. So that maybe something for others who have made problems worth DAB to try. I have switched the machine on a few times since and the stations are still there.

Very happy with the features, the sound quality and the price of the machine. No complaints so far and would recommend this.

5 stars.

Great Piece of Kit

(5 out of 5) by Mr. Ross Waterston on Jul 12, 2007
I would recommend this to anyone. All the people complaining about it not picking up DAB clearly have not discovered that the unit comes with an aerial, It's easy enough to put together and the sound quality is great. A real bargin

I read the reviews, took a chance and I'm very happy!

(4 out of 5) by Paul W on Feb 7, 2007 (Bristol, UK)
With both good and bad reviews shown here I had to think twice about buying this unit which was initially my first choice but I did look at others. As I was pushed for time to accept a home delivery this week I took a chance and eagerly awaited its arrival.

I was pleasantly surprised, a very small compact unit with enough oomph to annoy my neighbours should I wish to turn the volume up. I've always been under the impression that my main room has appalling acoustics so I'm not sure that I will ever get the best out of it but my 20-year old system desperately needed replacing. What I have now looks and feels so much better than what I had previously. I've noted the comments about DAB reception. Despite being a fair distance from my nearest transmitter I think I'm receiving all the stations that I should on the very poor wire aerial. Sound quality seems to be better on FM than DAB but that is what many people say about FM v. DAB so that it may not be a reflection on the sound reproduction of this unit.

All in all I'm very pleased with this modern up-to-date hi-fi, I should have bought something like it long before now. My main criticism is that there is little scope to connect it to other equipment. My DVD player/recorder and VCR have a multitude of sockets on the back, so does my TV, this unit has none and that is why I cannot give a 5-star rating.

A quality product!

(5 out of 5) by Mr. A. P. Souter on Nov 16, 2008 (Nottingham, Nottinghamshire United Kingdom)
Well, I have to say I am very pleased with this stereo. The sound is rich and full, and you can alter the bass/treble in addition to a DSGX button that lets you further enhance the sound quality rather than fiddling around with pre-set "sounds" such as jazz/rock/concert hall etc.

I've had no trouble with the DAB radio at all - upon first installation of the unit, I switched it on and all the stations were found automatically with no problems at all.

The unit has a 3CD disc changer in addition to a tape deck cunningly disguised/integrated behind/with the main LCD display - this is great! Lets face it, we all have tapes that we still want to listen to! Good to see!

One of the main reasons I purchsed this stereo was the feature that lets you use it as an alarm - i.e. you can programme the machine to wake you up in the morning to your favourite CD/radio station or tape - far more pleasant than waking up to a traditional beeping alarm clock! :D

The unit looks good too - however, I've already removed the front "grills" or covers that come fitted over the speakers - this is a personal choice but I think the speakers look good "exposed".

For a micro hi-fi, I am really impressed with the sound - the speakers are 50 watts each and have a good full frequency range.

I really can't fault this machine at all - I see that some reviewers have had issues with the fairly short speaker cable lengths, but as one reviewer has explained, this is easily fixable if you are prepared to go down to Maplin or any other electronic store.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this machine and am so pleased to have something that ticks all the boxes!
