Very good hi-fi, loads of features
(4 out of 5) by Steve Grant on Aug 22, 2007 (Devon, UK)Well my old hi-fi system had finally died. I'd been looking around for a new one for a while, and this Sony has all the features I was searching for. Autoloader with MP3 playback, tape deck, DAB radio - excellent.
I, like other reviewers, was worried about the negative comments on here. Ignore them! I live in the southwest, not London, but I've got all the DAB stations that I could expect to get with the supplied antenna. The build quality is great, as is the sound. It's a little bigger than a micro hifi, but it's still quite small. For the money, you'll be hard to match all the features.
One of the reviewers was correct about the speakers cables being too short, and not extendible. Sony, in their wisdom, decided to put a funny plug on the end of speaker leads. Hence the loss of a star rating. After a visit to Maplin I found the parts needed to extend the cables without cutting it open. If you want to do this then you'll need the following: 1 x JW64U (HDD power connector male - four in the pack), 1 x JW65v (HDD power connector female - four in the pack) and the necessary lengths of speaker cable. Crimp one end of the cable with male connectors and the other with the female, and join together. It works a treat.

Brilliant

When I was buying I was cautious because of the reviews that said the DAB did not work and that the sound quality was rubbish, but then I risked it and bought this model anyway, and all I can say is that it is brilliant!
DAB works fine, I had to scan twice but on the second go it found them all. Sounds absolutely amazing for what it is and I play sound from my laptop into it mainly so its excellent. Took 10 mins to set up, and thats without reading the instructions.
Overall, a very good buy. I don't usually write reviews but seeing the bad ones about this, I thought I should share my positive experience that I have had with it so far!

I liked it so much I am going to buy a second one for the lounge!

This unit ticks all the boxes - only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the bit of noise the cd changer makes when it switches trays, if it had been totally silent it would be 5 stars. Check the Sony website for correct technical specs on this product - for example, Amazon site says "RDS - no", but it does in fact have RDS. £129 is an excellent price too. I bought it for the bedroom (too big for a bedside table though) as it has a sleep function as well as a wake-up function, and like it so much I am going to buy another for the lounge. The DAB issue - I switched on, it immediately tuned all the stations automatically, no problem. The display shows which station you are listening to.

Nice Bit Of Kit!

In actual fact, I wanted to order its predecessor, the CMT-SPZ70, which, at 2X75W, was more powerful than then this system which is 2X50W. The older system didn't have a DAB radio, which, after having read many of the negative reviews concerning the DAB reception on this unit, didn't bother me. Sadly, the CMT-SPZ70 cannot be found anywhere to purchase. Therefore, I opted for this model instead. Once received, the first feature I tried was the DAB radio - I expected it to be as poor as many of the other reviewers had mentioned, in actual fact the reception was superb, no problem whatsoever! In general the sound on the unit is very good and the three disc changer, which is a stacked disc changing system as opposed to a carousel, is something I've not seen on any other unit.

It was so easy to set up and fits just were i want it. I can't be happier with this system. The DAB is perfect, the CD sounds great and the CASSETTE records from both RADIO and CD player.
I wanted this SONY CMT-SPZ90 for all it's features and i'm not disappointed. So if you are looking for a Micro System that does a lot, this is the one for you.
