Great performance, great brand, great price......
Okay, I replaced my Panasonic/Technics AV Receiver with this new HDMI enabled Sony one NB. First Sony product I've ever (bar a pair of earphones) bought.
I went for the silver option as I've a Black/Silver fusion going on in my Home Cinema set up.
Anyhow bar the fact that it looks the business, it performs lovely and has a great kick when it comes to playing CDs, in Pro Logic IIx mode it kicks ass and really brings CDs, especially a lot of layered stuff to life. An area that I was afraid that Home Cinema AV Receivers may not be the business on until buying this.
Movie wise I've a Toshiba HD DVD XA1 Player Connected and also now a Sony DVD Player via HDMI (it allows for 2 inputs which can output to your Plasma/LCD...) and the Sound is fantastic also every little nuance comes out of its shell compared to my older AV Receiver. The picture quality also carries from your HD DVD and DVD source with no loss of quality at all as it's geared up for this too. HD DVD is simply amazing with not only its picture quality but the new DD+ and DD Tru HD Soundtracks which this AV Receiver is compatible with thanks to Optical/Coaxial and 5.1 Inputs.
The features are plenty and after a brief audition it's really quite easy to set up and use, with the remote control that's multi-brand* enabled with glow in the dark buttons. *Bar the HD DVD Player which must be deliberate as Sony are pro Blu Ray Disc.
Probably if this Receiver came out say 2-3 years ago it would've been twice the price but I suppose it's welcome to the nougties as prices with a lot of AV stuff is now more reasonable than ever.
I hope this Review helps some folk especially as it's the first here on Amazon and I know some people are crying out for opinions.
