Really excellent speakers.

Dec 1, 2006 - By moet (UK)

Overall; the sound quality and available loudness from these speakers is really quite remarkable, and added to their portability and optional battery power they are really a bargain.
I received these speakers as a gift, so didn't have a chance to read reviews or test them against other speakers, however I needn't have worried about their quality; I don't know if the older i-station 3 speakers with the extra sub-woofer are to be phased out, but they really don't sound any better than these speakers. A small sub-woofer isn't going to make a lot of difference anyway, and comparing the two designs I think these are just as good and a lot cheaper (I have heard both).
The overall size of the folded speaker set is about that of a small paperback book; there are clear plastic covers built in that fold over the speakers to protect them and the base unit which holds the ipod folds up into the body of the unit. Several adaptors are supplied to hold whichever ipod you own, but you will need the adaptor that came with your (original model) nano if you want to seat that securely.
The unit is very simple to use with only a couple of buttons for volume up and down and the on/off switch. The on/off switch is illuminated blue and is really bright. Because your ipod is connected via its USB socket the volume can only be controlled from the i-station buttons; these can be adjusted from silent to max volume quite quickly and easily with a couple of pushes (and I've edited this because I said they wouldn't go down to zero volume previously - I've since found out that my original unit was faulty; the new one is fine) You can also change the EQ setting on the ipod itself and this will change the sound tone from the speakers, although I found the setting for 'small speakers' was a bit bassy and muffled. The'rock' setting is good. Sound quality is really very good for such tiny speakers, and as I've said the available volume is excellent.
If you want to connect any other type of portable player a headphone adaptor lead is supplied that will allow the output of any device with a 3.5mm headphone socket to be amplified (which is anything and everything really - cassettes/mp3 players and portable CD players).
Talking of leads; a mains lead is also supplied and is colour matched to the main unit too. If you use this the player is slightly louder than with just batteries, but it is the battery feature that makes this player so good - battery life seems to quite amazingly good. I put in a set of rechargeable li-on batteries over a month ago and they are still going strong. I was really expecting the battery feature to be a bit of a gimic with them only lasting a few minutes, but the minimal battery consumption makes these speakers really great to carry around without worrying about extra leads/adaptors. You can actually charge your ipod when the mains adaptor is in use, but not when you are using just batteries, so you still have to note if the ipod is charged if you are out and about. I suppose it would be handy to be able to recharge rechargeable batteries within the unit, but you can't have everything I suppose!
A USB adaptor lead is also supplied that will connect to a computer and you can sync with itunes whilst listening to your ipod, even if you are using the speakers own batteries.
Overall I love these speakers and would recommend them highly to anyone looking for either highly portable speakers, or just great value.

One Word: Amazing

Jul 15, 2007 - By Mrs. Shan E. Karwatowska (UK)

I bought these speakers online when I read all the great reviews. I was a bit scepitcal. . . and if you are feeling the same, buy them. Seriously, they are an amazing buy and you wont be dissapointed. I have friends that payed the same ammount for iPod speakers only to find that they disstorted the music and/or made that annoying little buzzing sound, sometimes not even at a very high volume. You will have to trust me on this one, they are a great little buy. The buttons are not the silly touch sensitive ones that annoy most people, you actully have to press them to make the volume change, which I think is better. Some of the other reviewers say that the disadvantage is they dont have a remote, I have my own so I didnt find this a problem, obviously. More over they look very stylish and are very well thought out, they have a scratch protecter and the iPod stand folds in to make an even compacter item. They are extremly light and can charge your iPod whenever and whereever there is a plug handy, so you dont even have to worry about taking the iPod charger. That I have to say is a real plus as I normally forget it and my iPod dies before I even reach the airport. Summing up I would highly recomend it, and if you dont buy these then you are a fool, in all respects :P

Brilliant!!! Great Value!!!

Nov 13, 2006 - By Dave A (UK)

This charges your iPod, syncs it and the speaker quality for such small speakers is amazing. It only shows any distortion at really high volume!
I have a 3G iPod, which unlike most it still charges, and this is cheaper than buying a set of active speakers and a firewire charger, which is needed to do the same job. It beats using them as well, as you don't need any extra cables, everything is included.
Great value for money, and I say again, suprisingly good qualtiy!!

Awesome! A must have

Sep 17, 2006 - By Marcelle Fowler (UK)

I was looking for some portable speakers to use in my bedroom but were small enough to take away with me, and this is exactly what i got. they are a great buy, great value for money, with great volume for something so small, easy to use and assemble, and fold away very small.
I was persuaded by these because they use AC but also have the option of batteries if when you're away there is no socket.
My only slight criticism, if anything, is that when u put the ipod in the holder, you need to push it down a little, and it can sometimes come loose if you change the song whilst it's still in there, but its easy to push it back, and this never happens unless you fiddle with the ipod whilst its playing.

I would 100% recommend this product

Worth buying!!!!!!Don't miss it.

This speaker is really good for this price. You cannot expect a high quality sharpness as it is not an high end speaker. But to fill a room (you can listen the song from any part of house) or for trips this is ideal.
The sound quality is super and more than that this is very compact to carry on your bag(size of 3-4 visiting card). You can fit any ipods as the speaker is accompanied with docks for all the ipods. Even you can sync the ipod or connect any other mp3 players.
