Great Recorder, Great Value.

(5 out of 5) by J. M. Mcnamee on Mar 21, 2007 (Belfast, NI)
Having owned 3 different cheap DVD recorders (lite-on, Alba then daewoo) and all of them breaking within a year and being returned to amazon, sainsbury's and amazon respectivly, i felt it was time to spend a little bit more and go for a hard drive recorder.

This one seemed fairly good value and had a 160gb drive, compared with others which had an 80gb, but were more expensive, so i gave daewoo another chance, after being dissapointed with their DVD recorder.

I was not dissapointed this time. This HDD/DVD recorder is fantastic - good quality, simple to use, loads of disc space (i dont use dvds anymore - the HDD is just so handy), simple to set up and even has a time shifting (pause/rewind live TV) function a la sky plus (i'm on ntl/virgin media). The remote control is also very clear and easy to use (many remotes these days are a scrambled mess of tiny buttons)

the only down side is there is noticable fan noise while it is on (which is only a problem if watching a quiet part in a film, it is usually drowned out by TV at normal volume) and it can take a while to warm up (maybe 15-20 seconds) which is a little annoying when you want to record something straight away.

other than that it is a great bit of kit, and well worth the money - usually you get what you pay for with electronics, but this is an acception - it's a bargain that actually works well.

Buy Buy Buy!

(5 out of 5) by Mr. Paul D. Reynolds on Feb 6, 2007 (kent, England)
Fantastic value for money, got some great features, very easy to set up and use. Very high quality recordings, piece of cake to turn in to a multi region player, just use google!
Would recommend as a great entry level or mid range recorder.

Seems pretty good...

(5 out of 5) by Benn Vallely on May 15, 2007
Very easy to set up, and it seems to be everything all the previous reviewers are saying it is! The only problem I found was in getting it set to multi-region.

You should take note that the model number is actually "DHR-8100P" rather than "DR8100P" (which is what I was searching google for - to no avail). Anyway, here's how you make this multi-region;

Once everything's set up, do the following;

1) Press the "Setup" button on your remote
2) scroll across to the "System info" section
3) Enter numbers 1101 on remote
4) enter region 0 for region free
5) Press enter then setup button

Hope that makes things easier for anyone else deciding to buy this system. Cheers.

Good Machine

(5 out of 5) by Aured on Jun 11, 2007 (Wales)
I purchased this last week. I found it very easy to set up. It found all the channels and the time automatically. I found it easy to record programmes to both the hard drive and DVDs. It is also easy to transfer recordings from the hard drive to a DVD. The PDC and Videoplus functions work well. I found the instruction booklet easy to follow and it was actually written in English! I decided to purchase this model after reading the reviews on Amazon.

I had a previous machine and it was the worse thing I have ever bought. It never worked properly and was nothing more than a shiny ornament in my TV cabinet. I wish I had read the poor reviews on Amazon, before I purchased it.

Impressed

(4 out of 5) by Aoin Douglas on May 15, 2007 (Liverpool, England)
It was so easy to set up I was using the machine 5 minutes after it was delivered to my house. I am not very technologically literate and did not really know what I was getting with this "hard drive recording" business, but talk about an instant improvement to quality of life! Now I can start recording Lost, go and do something else for twenty minutes, come back and watch the whole thing, fast forwarding through the adverts and finish viewing at the same time the program ends on television - brilliant!

I Google'd for the multi region access code and £[...] later I now have a fully functional "region free" DVD player and recorder.

One small gripe, hence not a five star review, but I warn you to turn the machine off when you're not using it - the internal fan is quietly audible if the telly noise is not there to hide it.
