Excellent!

(5 out of 5) by K. Bayne on Feb 21, 2007 (UK)
We have just upgraded from a jumble of inherited telephones, some cordless, some digital and some completely ancient! The choice out there for a multiple handset DECT group plus answering machine is HUGE, so how to pick? Well, firstly I did some research at Peter Jones (John Lewis) who spent ages patiently explaining all the differences between various makes and models. Then, I asked friends. Things became clearer gradually -check ring tones (big risk of ending up with something stupid instead of 'bring, bring'), check handsets can take ordinary batteries (obviously rechargeable) which are easy to buy locally, check that phones work well in old stone houses with 2ft thick walls, etc, etc. Someone mentioned checking if handsets will survive a wash cycle (!!!!) but no one seems to offer such a facility. Though I was leaning towards the Philips trio system SE4353, it was suggested that Panasonic had better build quality. Then I discovered that Argos is selling off the KXTG7123ES for £[...], so I couldn't delay any further. Instruction book is easy to understand, selected ring tone is fine, crystal clear vocals, all in all I am thrilled with it. Yes, it looks a bit plasticky but then it IS made out of plastic. And I suppose some of you will miss the SMS function others offer but as we all get messages on mobiles and answering machines, how many other places do you really want to have to check when someone says "did you get my message?"?? OK I would agree that Philips have the edge on looks..... but that is no good if it does work as well or last as long.)Hope this is helpful. I much appreciated everyone else's reviews.

Long term test- bought March 2007

(5 out of 5) by Julie Cutler on Dec 28, 2007 (Coventry)
I'm very happy I sprung for this answerphone and 2 spare handsets- it's completely changed my life. The answerphone, paired up with the free caller id from BT is invaluable to filter out annoying sales calls (good grief, I'm stuck working in a call centre- the last thing I want to do when I get home is talk on the phone!). When you set up the initial address book or add a phone number, you can send the revised list to the other handsets in the house without getting up!. The caller list function with date and time is great for going through missed calls from people who've been trying to reach you (apart from those sales calls!) and also spotting how long it is since someone last checked in if they got delayed on their journey. You can listen to and delete answer messages from any handset (I've not bothered to dial in externally- but you can). I've one handset that isn't permanently on trickle charge and I have noticed that the rechargeable battery life is slightly waning already (even though I swap the handset on longterm charge)- however it's good for at least a day. This design is a little chunky and less ergonomic than the alternative black Panasonic kit.

One word of caution- keep a normal backup phone (unless you're so organised that your mobile is always fully charged)- when our electricity substation was washed away in the Sheffield floods we were subject to power rationing for a fortnight- this phone relies on being plugged in to work!

very impressed

(5 out of 5) by D. Irwin on Oct 19, 2007 (UK (Middle England))
I cannot add anything to the comments that have already been made but, as I always read these reviews before making a purchase, felt duty bound to confim what has already been said.
Lovely build quality, very intuitive set up, loud ring, 50 entry phone book (actually makes me feel that I should have more friends than I do. Wouldn't want a 100 entry phone book as it would really make me feel like a sad old 'Johnny no-mates')

Make a note of that 'intuitive to use' comment that I made. I know a lot of people can't cope with technology, (you don't want to know the sort of comments I used to make about VCRs) But this thing is oh so easy to set up. In fact I'd made and received my first call before I'd set anything up.... Just plugged it in. This thing just wants to be a phone. (unlike all of my VCR which wanted to be.... well, lawyers I think, cos' they always managed to find some sort of technical loop hole for not quite recording the programmes I had asked em to)

All in all, excellent.

Cons?..... Amazon don't give-em away.
OK ... none that I can see.

Superb clarity, easy to use, lovely to hold

(5 out of 5) by J. allman on Sep 12, 2007 (UK)
I would have no hesitation in recommending this phone outfit (and amazon, as usual). I have been faithful to BT cordless phones for many years but not anymore mate! Off to the bin you go, you horrible synergy BT phone and hello darling Panasonic! (can you tell I am really excited about this phone yet?). From out of the box, it was all so easy to set up. its nice to hold and very comfortable for those long chats ;-) The best feature is the large lcd display and the lighted keys IMHO but to be honest, I just cannot fault it for anything whatsoever. Go out and buy withy confidence, you wont regret it!

These phones are pretty good

(4 out of 5) by Paul on Nov 1, 2006 (Wellington, Shropshire, UK)
I bought these phones 3 months ago and have been impressed with them ... they're very easy to use. I use them on hands free all the time for my work and they have good sound quality. You only need to populate the phone book on one handset and you can then push the phonebook out to the other handsets which saves a lot of set up time. Batteries were included although they were defective for one of the handsets. Amazon couldn't / wouldn't replace the battery and asked me to return all 3 handsets and the base station which I was not able to do as I needed to have a phone in the house! I contacted Panasonic directly and they replaced the battery with no fuss whatsoever. Would I recommend these phones ... yes!
