Radio reception and tape recording

(3 out of 5) by S. Spence on Feb 23, 2008 (Sheffield, England)
I wanted a small radio/cassette player for the kitchen where I like to record from the radio onto tapes. Unfortunately the bandwidth for Radios 4 and 3 is very narrow which makes tuning very difficult. Reception and sound quality not good. I haven't used the CD function. It's probably good all-round value for the price but it doesn't work well for the purpose I wanted it for.

Excellent value for money

(5 out of 5) by Comical Engineer on Nov 24, 2007 (UK)
The bad points: there is no MP3 connection and no remote control. The radio is a bit fiddly to tune in sometimes.

The good points: Sound quality is very good for the price of the unit, the CD works well and it's generally easy to use. Bass boost works quite well, you will probably want it on all the time when listening to music.

The unit is fairly attractive although the photos don't show you that it's quite deep.

This is used by my son in his bedroom and gives him hours of pleasure listening to talking books and football commentary.

Can't really fault it at the price.

great value for money

(5 out of 5) by P. Lyttle on Nov 16, 2007 (UK)
I have been looking for a secondhand cassette player as I still have such a lot of stuff on cassette tape and didn't think I would still be able to buy a new one. When I saw this for the price I just had to try it and I am really pleased. It does exactly what it says it will and the quality is better than anyone has a right to expect for the price. I would have paid this much for a clapped out second hand player!

Good sound and value

(5 out of 5) by R. J. Harvey on Feb 2, 2007 (Haddington, Scotland)
Bought this 'Used - as new' from the Marketplace for only £[...]nd quality from CD and tape is very impressive for the money. Appearance is neat and it sits nicely in our dining room to provide music while you eat!
FM radio reception is acceptable although it is only a manual station tuner. Overall very good value for money.

A true bargain that is ideal for your kids or your kitchen.

(5 out of 5) by Ben on Jul 14, 2006 (Avon, UK)
I bought this Philips player as a present for someone and when it arrived I tested the radio, CD and cassette functions. I have to say that for the money this unit is an absolute steal. This is a fairly compact player that feels durable and is quite user friendly.
Best used with the (side switch) DYNAMIC BASS BOOST function switch on, this unit delivers (for the money) a very decent sound quality that will also cope with BASS music favoured by the younger generation.
Whether you want it for your kitchen, shed or kids, this CD/radio/cassette player is spot-on for the money.
I should also point out that whoever purchases this unit will most likely feel comfortable with the design and colour. Modern appearance, but not over-designed.
Incidentally, I have ordered a second unit for my kitchen.
Finally, if we are going to be picky, the only criticism for some might be that the radio doesn't have LW.
